Can someone please tell me anything different between the 686 and the 686 Deluxe revolvers other than the grips? Suggested retail price difference is $45.00

Smoother double action?

Maybe I am just lucky, but my Deluxe 3" has the smoothest double action pull through of all my K and L frames. The grips look nice but I don't care for the feel. I prefer the rubber grips that came on my 617, so I switched them.

I have the Deluxe, and I'm pretty sure the grips are the only difference. I happen to like the grips on the Deluxe a lot.

Thanks to everyone!!! I've paid for the Deluxe and should receive early next week from my local dealer. last year they received just over 1000 guns either for buyers or inventory.

I just got a new 686 Deluxe and am looking for a set of grips like it has, for my 929.

No revolver should be forced to wear Altamonts when going in public. Let alone the internal lock....man long gone are the days they made a great looking piece. Just spoke to Lane Tobiassen and he said the lock is going to stay for now. Yeah right.

My 686 Deluxe: 7 shot, wood grips, B/C gap .003", action timed perfectly. My 2 previous "+" revolvers had weak lockup and went down the pike. This one is a keeper. So far. If my doctor allows me to leave the house and range times are not by appointment, I'll wring it out further. It is very nice, but not refined like my 686SSR is.

I vaguely remember reading someplace that the difference between a Classic designation and a Deluxe designation was how the revolver performed. Allegedly, it claimed that if the revolver shot groups within a standard, it was then labelled a Deluxe model. Honestly, I don't think S&W would fire individual revolvers that much.

The difference...

The difference between the 686+ Deluxe and the standard 686+, the 3" model by example, in addition to that the deluxe comes with the wood grips and the standard comes with rubber grips, is that the deluxe model has a nicer, more polished finish. This is direct from S&W. There was no mention of the gun having any other enhancements or having anything to do with the Performance Center. :)
