Default Question on M48-4 Box Label

I've been looking for a six inch M48 for awhile and a fellow Forum member pointed me towards one (thanks Carlos) yesterday. So, 92K8562, with the usual blue box but with a computer printed (I think) end label. Seems to be a little less, and maybe a little more, then the usual amount of info and I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on what the 0484016031 and the Y codes might mean.

The smooth football target stocks are nice but I think too early for this 1981 gun; probably should be non-diamond magnas. Thanks much for any insight on the codes.

Default label

The label you have pictured is the "other end" of the box. It would have been used in conjunction with the hand written label. K frame guns used two different width boxes, one for Magna grips and one with target grips. If you gun fits in the box without "pushing" the sides out it is correct for your gun.

Thanks for the info. There is no indication (glue remnants, "shadow" of label, whatever) of a label ever having been on the other end of the box. Clean as the proverbial whistle. No, the gun doesn't fit so I was pretty sure it probably left the factory with magnas; of which I have plenty. Thanks again.

0484 probably means you have a model 48-4?

The 016031 is not the model SKU and doesn't fit into a date code. Someone else here probably knows its meaning.

Haven't figured out what the "Y" means, it's on all of them except a couple I've seen with a "Z" there but the 10 digit number is the early order (product) code used from late '79 through late '84. It was joined by the more familiar six digit product code in late 1983 until it was completely replaced by it in late '84.

What it means:
0484 - Model 48-4
01 - standard blue (02 is bright blue, 04 nickel, 09 stainless
60 - six inch barrel
3 - square butt (2 is round butt)
1 - standard features for that model so if the Model 48 came standard with magnas, the revolver that shippied in that box came with magnas.
