Here's my current 4"er. Had a 3" and another 4" but let them go.

624s are mighty fine. These get shot, have a couple more packed away.

When Skeeter Skelton talked Smith & Wesson into running the 624's I immediately jumped on the band wagon and bought a 4" and a 6.5". They almost immediately became two of my most favorite revolvers.
One of the best targets I ever shot is this one with the 6.5" - standing at 25 yards. I had not shot it for awhile, and wasn't certain where it was zero'ed. I was doing this in front of a group, so there was a bit of pressure to perform. My first shot was intended to be a 10, so I held off. Then, I adjusted my aim and was fortunate enough to put the other nine ones in the "X" ring.

The trio as seen on my deck.
The 3" at work with Spegels.
The 4" at work with Herretts.
What the 4" is capable of.
Once you get the 624's then you can get started on the L frame 44's.
They might be even nicer!

The 624 with 4" barrel is a "Perfect Packing Pistol" (as per John Taffin). I have carried it many, many times in the field. The 4" barrel is long enough to shoot well with an excellent sight picture and yet portable. Further, the .44 Special in these revolvers can be loaded with the very useful "Skeeter" load (7.5 grs. of Unique behind a 250 gr. Keith). It works quite well on both edible small game and the larger varmints, too.
Another very useful load in the .44 Special is using the Group Buy dbl ended w/c ahead of 5.0 grs. of Red Dot. It gives nearly 900 fps with noticeably less recoil but is VERY effective with it's caliber wide meplat.

Darn, I don't have one, I have to make do with this old 24-3, 3". I didn't like the RB Combats, so fit up something else. Kept the original in the box for the future next owner.

I agree with both statements although these days as I am older and woods-walk less I tend to carry the 696-1 instead in a Mernickle cross-draw.
Both were obtained via this forum.
Thanks folks!
Brian Pearce had an excellent write-up in Handloader about what he thinks these guns (the 696) are capable of pressure-wise.
I tend to use 6.5 Universal/240 but as you can see the "Skeeter" shot well too.
A similar WC style bullet I use is the Penn Thunderhead.
245 grain 44 caliber Thunderhead
