Gonna be shooting some K frame and decided to swap out the target stocks with some rubber grips.

What do folks prefer for recoil absorption and comfort for square butt k frames?
Using some .357 magnum in a 19-5 4" and some .38 along with +P in 15-4.

Pachmayr or Hogue?

I always preferred the look and feel of Pachmayrs over Hogues. Love the checkering and medallions. Although their modern fit and finish isn't nearly as nice as their older stuff, they still get the job done.

I truly dislike the look and feel of the Hogue. I make an exception in the X-frame monsters, that particular Hogue, while still ugly, does a fantastic job of handling the recoil punch.

As a kid who's formative years were mid-to-late 1980's, it's Pachmayr all the way for me. I also agree with the above folks who said that the Uncle Mike's made a fine grip also, but are indeed out of production.

It's funny, a decade ago I would hunt down a high grade but used set of Pachmayr or Uncle Mike's whenever I came in to a new-to-me revolver. But that plan was replaced long ago. Now, when I see either a Unclue Mike's or Pachmayr in the style I like, I buy it if the price is near my point and put it in a "box of grips" because I know eventually I will need yet another set.

Like said previously, grips are a very personal choice because we are all built a little differently. Over the years I tried a lot of revolver grips until I found Hogue. I carried the hard plastic ones for years and liked them, but these days the rubber ones make shooting feel easier on these old hands.

Pachmayr Decelerator Grips SK-G/D #05140 - discontinued but worth the search.

Have used just about every one made.
Prefer these Pachmayr Grippers on K Frames.

Totally agree. I've tried Hogue and for me there's no contest. Pachmayr Gripper with the finger groove and exposed backstrap are magic for me. Greatly improves my accuracy and comfort. I also really like the now discontinued Uncle Mikes rubber grips if you can find them.

Doesn't matter what folks prefer. YOUR hands must decide, for you.

I prefer Pach. Signature or Grippers or would hunt down Uncle Mike's, no longer made.

Good luck in finding what's best for you.

Excellent advice, you have to try which one you feel most comfortable with and that will be the correct one

Have rubber and wood..like em both depending on gun and caliber

I've got numerous K frames in 22 to 38 +P. I find factory wood magna's or targets to be fine for me whether range or woods, plinking, etc.

With the 357 magnum though the Pachmayrs, Houge Mongrip, and even a nice pair of old 1950's Mershon (predecessor to Pachmayr) were used most often when out with the Model 65. Houge Monogrip has a decent size palm swell, little like cokes in wood.

My Model 66 came from the factory with Uncle Mikes and these too have been most comfortable with full load maggies aboard.

Like said above...worth tracking down some oldies on flea bay and then just a matter of what suits your hand and style best.

My EDC is a 637 (J Frame) that came with factory supported Altamont finger groove wood checkered combats and is extremely comfortable for me.

Another vote for Uncle Mike's if you can find them. They were
designed by Spegel and made, I think, by Butler Creek. Marketed
by Uncle mike. Here's a picture: BTW the revolver is a Model 67
Combat Masterpiece no dash.
