I picked this 22-4 up today....They call it the Model of 1950.

Serial # DAT1823

I looked at S&W's Classic line offerings and did not see it on there so did they quit making them?

I'm not much on the internal lock guns but this one spoke to me.

I always wanted a .45 acp in a shorter package than my M1917s and till I saw this one all I ever saw was a parade of cut-down examples, usually at the end of their service life.

That and it reminds me so much of the 38/44 HD.

The revolver first appeared as the Thunder Ranch Revolver Model 22. The first batches of these used the TRR prefix and were reintroduced in 2006. I like serial numbers

When the first of these shipped it turned out Smith & Wesson used the wrong height front sight. Obviously thy fixed them for free

These were offered for many years. I have no idea when they were officially dropped from the line. I am quite fond of mine

Smith and Wesson did offer 1917s during this same time frame in 6" and 4", blue or nickel. The nickel on these is superb. Once day I will add one of those as well

My 22-4 is nickel. One of my favorite revolvers. I like it much better after I found RIMZ moon clips. Much easier than the steel clips.

Nice looking revolver. Enjoy!

Dan

I have a sack full of the M1917 full, half, and even two-round metal clips and a removal tool but I ordered 10 of the RIMZ clips just to try. I hope they work out.

I have several of the Model 22-4s. Two with the 4” barrel and one with the 5 1/2” barrel. The only one fitted with a lanyard ring is the longer barreled revolver.

One of the 4” revolvers is my EDC.

The Thunder Ranch guns also came with a nice carrying case (but in a plain brown cardboard box). Mine just missed being SN 1776 by a couple of digits, and had the right height front sight. This picture is not mine, but shows the case:

Hey does anyone know how much the special Thunder Ranch square butt diamond magna stocks cost or are going for?
Thank you!

I’m searching for a 22-4, 4 inch, as a stablemate to my recently acquired 21-4 ( detailed here: Thoughts on M21-4 )

To me, there is something that appeals to me in these revolvers- a classic style chambered in a big bore - non magnum round that can be carried.

They are really neat guns. I like the unique frames. I just wish they had offered a .45 Colt version.

Be sure and check that front sight if you get an early one; makes a big difference in point of impact.

My TRR had to go back to the mother ship to have the barrel clocked. Put a set of Kens grips on it.
