To whoever gave me the link for the 686-6 cylinder release that hides the hole, THX!

Works great! Love it

Smith & Wesson Extended Cylinder Release Latch

This cylinder release latch is extended upward to cover the frames lock mechanism.

Fits Smith &Wesson N, L, and K frames with the new style cylinder latch. Does not fit J frame.

According to the page it is on, it IS stainless. Blackened 303 stainless. But it is also listed under blems and clearance, so I suspect the plain ones are gone?

Looks good . I wonder why it’s not offered in bare stainless ?

It was on a special sale deal, maybe the last of them?

Still looks cool, adds a rakish look that fits in with the black rear sight, its still stainless, fits perfect. The Hole is gone, I'm happy, lol

I like it and agree it would be better in plain stainless.

I couldn't wait to put one on my 642. With a little filing it fit and worked great.

But I too wished it was stainless. Then I remembered it was stainless. A little wire wheel work and it looks great.

In 2009 I went to work for a company that made various gun parts. I told the owner that he should make a latch that covered the lock hole. He was for it but he spoke to Brownells about it and they told him they would not carry such an item for legal reason. That was the end of that. I think it looks great. If I wasn't at the end of my S&W collecting days I would buy one.

Whoever came up with that deserves to make a million bucks!
Great idea.

They may be blems. I bought two of them..had to file both of them to get a clean cylinder release.

It does look better than the hole plus it's actually easier to use than the stock unit.

Not an easy "Fix" but if....

There was no lock or hole & the arrow not visible then all these FIXES would be un-necessary and the revolver would have a much nicer appearance. Of course this just is my opinion!

I'm old enough to remember when being the best was more important than being competitive.

To each his own, but it's very recognizable and the hole is still there. Informed people will know. I just don't get it I guess.
I'm happy if it makes the OP happier with his revolver :)

What bothers me most is the frame lines around the hammer are thrown off. The firing pin being frame mounted doesn't bother me but that lock causing messed up frame line does.

That's right I AM Happy!

Like I care what all the nitnoid freaks say coming into MY thread and throwing shade on MY happiness!!!

Right. I bought two, so now I've got to be on the look out for another blemished revolver for sale. I'll beat the price down due to the wart and then fix it! Win!
