New member, just joined the forum.

I been looking to buy a Smith and Wesson for a long time, which would be my first revolver. My decision to buy a revolver was made easy, when I saw the J frame powerport. I put a down payment on one, which could either be a 637 or 642 depending on the availability.

I'm excited to join, and even more to own a S&W. It would be a carry gun, next to the XD subcompact. I haven't seen seen much on these guns here on the forum, is there a reason to that? Did I made a good choice?

Got the 637 today, the one I wanted.

I've been looking at a 642 Pro at the local shop. It's the new 642 with Power Port barrel, black finish and white dot front sight. Sure looks like a nice gun and, even though I don't care too much for ported barrels on SD guns, I'm tempted to try one of these.

Let us know if you like yours.

Yes, same gun. The one they have in store is the 642, I want the 637. If they can't get it, then it is the 642. I plan on using hot ammo in it Double Tap, so the port might be a plus.

Monday, I should know/get it.

If that 125 gr load is going an honest 1100fps out of a 1 7/8" barrel, I would not shoot much of it. That's getting into .357 Magnum territory and Double Tap is not a SAAMI member so that +P rating means nothing.

This is my first wheel gun, and my first S&W. The trigger on this thing is very nice, in SA and DA. I never expected a revolver with no trigger job to be that good, it is a day and night between the normal 637 and the Pro 637. Also, the finish is good, a flat black like.

I plan on shooting the gun when I can find the ammo to do so.
