s&w model 21 TR
What is a S&w model 21 Thunder Ranch worth.? This has the display box too.
Is the cylinder long enough to use 44mag brass loaded to 44 spl. level?
I bought one for about $600 and is seems to me to be a screaming good deal.
Your comments are welcome.

1. They seem to be going for $700-$800, so at six I think you got a very good deal.
2. NO!

I have no firm idea as to value. The last one I saw in a LGS was not a TR but the plain 21-4... it was over $700 plus tax. My 21-4TR is one of my favorite revolvers. It is extremely well fitted. The only thing I don't like is the round butt, however I am adapting a set of S&W target grips to rectify that little issue. With Winchester cowboy action type .44 Special LRN ammunition my revolver will shoot right at an inch for six shots fired off-hand at 10 yds. It shoots POI at POA at 15yds. Using CCI Blazer 200 gr. Gold Dot Hollow Point ammunition POI is maybe 1.5 inches above POA at 15 yds.
The cylinder on the 21-4 is not long enough to use full-length .44 Magnum brass. The cylinder is chambered for the .44 Special which is the parent case from which the .44 Magnum was developed. You can take .44 Magnum brass and trim it down to .44 Special length and then use it to develop handloads for your 21-4TR. However, it would be much simpler to simply buy .44 Special brass. Starline produces excellent brass. The same is true of Remington and Winchester. HTH. Sincerely. brucev.

I have watched quite a few on Gunbroker over the last few months. The ones priced at over $700 rarely sell even as new. The ones in excellent condition priced under $700 sell. That is with the wood presentation box and Ahrends grips. $685 seems to be a good selling price for them. Though there is one up on GB right now for that price that hasn't moved.
