I've been searching high and low for one of these two models. I was hoping someone could help clarify their exact differences. I want an Airweight bodyguard, no lock, and both these models offer that, plus the wider front sights. Also these two models have the larger yoke screw hole which is required to attach a Techna Clip, which is how it will be carried, and why an older model 38 is not on my list. I'm not sure if the 38-2 is rated for continuous +P use, which I believe started in the 638-2 iteration. Besides finish, I'm not sure what other significant differences there may be.

Regardless, I'm fairly discouraged about finding either of them, as it has been some time now searching.

I rotate between my 442 and 637-1, but have decided I would like to move to the bodyguard frame for the best of both worlds.

Appreciate any input.

I carry a 49 No Dash every day. Once in your pocket you don't really notice the weight difference! I have owned a 438-? (New in 2009), I was not near the smoothness or accuracy as my old 49!

The weight is actually not so much a concern, as it is the larger yoke screw to fit the techna clip on it. I only carry my snubbies with a clip AIWB, and if I do pocket carry I've got my little Seecamp. I've got a model 36-7, which has the larger screw hole, the nice weight, beautiful blue, larger front site, etc. Just would love to add a humpback to the rotation.

I have a 38-2. Without going up to check, the only differences that come to mind are 38-2 has forged a parts, as opposed to MIM, and is not "rated" for +P. Of course, +P will not cause problems in a 38-2. Should be fine.

I don't/didn't know the answer to the question in the OP either. Here is some info/excerpts from "the book".

"38-2 1990 New sight width on frame and barrel to 1 ⁄ 8 " from 1 ⁄ 10 "
