My Collection Gets Classier
At the recommendation of one eye joe, I purchased a rosewood grip for my new 617-6. It's the exact same aftermarket grip that I have on my 67-5. These grips certainly add a another touch of class to these mechanical works of art!
For those that recall my last post, I also have a 642-1, but I've decided to keep the factory grip on that one as it is my defense gun. I'd rather not put more money than needed into my defense gun in the event it is taken as evidence after an incident, but I am open to feedback.

Sir,
I understand your reasoning about the grips on your defense gun. I wouldn't put a set of Ivory's on it myself. But I will say that your defense gun, while it doesn't need to look good, it definitely needs to fit your hands and allow you to do your very best shooting with the grips that are in place. For me, that's the only important criteria for the grips on my carry guns. Now, it sure doesn't hurt if what fits my hands well and allows me to shoot my best also look good in the process! But looking good is my last consideration in this matter.
If you are satisfied with the factory grips, that's great! Spend that money for ammo and go shoot that thing! But I ain't sayin' what my favorite grips are as any kind of recommendation for you. Why? Because we have different guns and we have different hand sizes and what works for me or anyone else may not work at all for you! You just gotta try them on for size and see what fits! Good luck with that, and BTW those Rosewood grip you have pictured are very pretty!

I put classier grips on my defense guns just because I know I will be looking at them every day twice a day.
Also to improve function. And this doesnt really apply to revolvers but you really want your defense guns to look classy and not menacing should they be used as evidence in front of a jury.

I really appreciate what you wrote! I guess I am one of the few people that finds the factory grip on the 642-1 as well-fitting for my hands, so that's the main reason why I don't think I need to change it. I agree with you that the important factor is my ability to handle and accurately shoot it, with any aesthetic factor being just a plus. Now, as my collection grows, and I find other guns I plan to use as defensive guns, rather than just for target shooting, I will certainly keep my ability to handle and shot effectively in mind when considering any grip changes.

Good point! I was not thinking about how a jury might perceive the look of a gun. It just shows the multitude of factors that we have to consider when carrying guns for protection.
The perceptions of revolvers as less menacing/dangerous, despite that being different from reality, is something I have heard others discuss as well. I do, when money allows, want to buy more guns for defensive uses, rather than target shooting, so do you have any thoughts about things to consider when I eventually make the jump into semi-auto pistols being in the same rotation as revolvers?

The number of members here was 204,881 a few minutes ago.
I'm a relative newcomer, just approaching three years here.
I haven't read of anyone here losing a gun to an evidence locker during my tenure.
What does that say about the law of probabilities?
It's not something I consider when I put my reworked Baby Chiefs with Craig Spegel boot grips inlaid with a $5 gold piece in my holster every morning.
