I just came across a 8" barrel Dan wesson from monson, ma. I can buy it for $325, plus shipping and FFL. Appears to be in excellent condition. I already own one with a 4in and 6in barrels. Should I do it? its such a good price!

Hi,

You didn't say whether this is a .357 (Model 15 is blue/715 is stainless) or .44 (Model 44 is blue/744 is stainless) - the two most popular DW revolvers. There are a few others that were sold, including the .22 and large bore magnum variants.

A Monson gun is preferred over the later Palmer ones by DW folks.

The price seems to be is the ballpark for a slightly used DW 15 in good shape. Anything less than $400 in my area is a decent deal, although the longer barrel will limit the desirability. The DW revolver is a very good gun which generally doesn't bring the $ it should. A good deal for buyers.

Keep in mind that you can purchase new replacement barrels from CZ/DW for about half of the price you quote for the gun. If it's just the different barrel length you're interested in, I'd go to CWZ/DW directly and save some $.

BTW, I have a 715-2V (with 4" and 6" barrels) and a 15-2V Pistol Pack (2.5", 4", 6", and 8") that are just great all 'round guns. Extremely accurate and quite sturdy.

Matt

Yessir, that is a GOOD price, and I agree with Matt... also have had a few of them over the years, and settled in on my 15-2VH6, and it is my "keeper" .............

My first centerfire revolver was a Dan Wesson at Wal Mart in about 77. It was 8" heavy barrel and I loved it until I shot a friends 1966 6.5 in. model 29 and I sold it and have been in S&W's ever since, it was and is a very nice accurate .357 you wont be disappointed.
