Just bought this 45 Colt caliber N-frame from a friend. Came in the box with the original Hogue grips but I immediately put these Craig Spegel grips on it.

Looking it up this particular gun was sold both as a 25-7 and a 25-9. Very nice, solid gun with a perfect 5" barrel I am looking forward to shooting it and carrying it in the field.

I do not recall seeing another one and neither does my good friend from whom I purchased the gun. We are thinking these may be fairly scarce. Anybody else have one?

Congrats on a nice find! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

I have this 4” 25-9 in 45LC.

I looked pretty hard for my 25-7. Liked it after I shot I even more than I thought I would. Soon after I picked up a 25-9. S&W made some sight changes between the two. A close friend had to have one so I sold him the 25-7. I personally could not tell the difference between the two.
You will be pleased after you shoot the gun. Even more so if you reload.

I have a 625 Series of 1989 in 45 ACP. I have seen others of these, but none of this series is common! (there are Series of 1988 also)

If your 45 Colt is anything like my 45 ACP, you will find that they were put together by the most gifted revolver people that S&W employed! With decent ammo it is hard to miss!

I bought mine to compete with my brother's Wilson Custom Shop 1911, and it shoots a little better, but my brother's ammo sucks!

I have a 1917 Brazilian Contract too and shoot target ammo and Premium SD ammo in both. the 1989 is just unbelievable with Federal Premium Hydro-shok (230 grain)and the 185 HST ammo.

I don't know what to use for factory 45 Colt. Back in the 1980's I had 25-5's in 4 and 6 inch, and used Federal red box 225 grain Hollow base/Hollow Point SWC. It was $5.88 at K-mart and I bought 80 or 90 boxes over 6 months!

Today, I only have single actions in 45 Colt (4 Vaqueros & 3 SAA clones). My SASS load is 230 grain RNFP over 6.7 grains of WW231. This load has done very well out to 75 yards for me! I'm sure your 25 will like it too!

From what I understand, the 5" unfluted 25-9 was just a continuation of the 5" unfluted 25-7 but with some minor changes - one of those being the cylinder bolt-stop notches are longer and deeper ala the endurance package guns. I think that there were fewer 25-9's made than the -7's, but don't know where I heard that. Here's mine...

Adios,

I've never seen a 25-9, and have seen some 25-7s, so I would guess more -7s were made than -9s, but that is just local experience. From what I gather from comments here, they were well made guns. Mine is about as good as one gets from Smith, except it shoots high with standard loads. It's much better poa/poi with 200 bullets. I believe its time for mine to go to the range. It has been neglected this year!

That model is for my money the peak of the development of the platform. I really want one of those 25-9s, but I am not holding my breath. They are not all that common. IIRC, only about 3000 of the 25-7 and 25-9 with the 5" barrel were made.

Well, took her to the range and ran a box of cowboy loads through her. MAN DOES SHE SHOOT.

Ordered some Herretts stocks. This one is a keeper.

Your 25-9 looks cool! I would like to have a -7, or -9. The un-fluted cylinder is the bomb to me! All I have is a 25-15. 1 of my favorites. Bob

I'm seriously thinking about adding one to my collection. I really want the 5" barrel in 45 Colt

Another N-Frame is always on my wish list! I'm thinking 44 Special or 45 Colt in 4, 5, or 6 inch would be fine. I don't require more than a shooter. But gooder is better!

If ANY of you decide for any reason to sell a 5" 25-9, understanding that I am looking for a shooter (so a collector grade one will be a shooter with a quickness), drop me a line. My schedule may be random, but I will be drooling like one of Pavlov's dogs.
