Default Where to buy grips with Ahrends gone?

Hi,

What are you guys buying for wooden grips for round butt K and L frames? I have Ahrends on all my old stuff but would like to grab a 586 L comp and perhaps a 65. Don't like finger grooves, was one of the things I appreciated the most about ahrends.

Thanks.

In our classifieds for round butt target grips, checkered or smooth. Or for magnas.

Default Grips

Take a look at ebay. I received grips from three sellers in Thailand.
The grips are well make and fit is very good. The sellers are Jaruwan.p ,Monticha2014 , Vitoonmakers. No problems, but shipping can be 2 to 6 weeks.

Ahrends sometime pop up used on ebay but at double the price.
If I needed wooden grips for those, I would look at Culina grips. Any type of wood. In the factory style. All available with the nice medallions.

For wood revolver grips:

Ahrends available on used market. Demand and prices trending accordingly.

Don Collins/Collinscraft only on used market. Don't see them very often.

Spegel, but with 2-3yr wait times. Again on the used market Spegel demand and prices trending accordingly.

Keith Brown new and used. Not currently taking new orders.

Herrett's new and used.

Culina new and used.

S&W factory grips

Hogue

Eagle

KSD

Altamont

Badger

Nills

Certainly others, but these capture most of the market I think.

I would add Eagle Grips to your list.

imightbearobot?, for mass-produced grips you can purchase without a long wait, I recommend you look at Hogues. They are available in a variety of woods, with or without finger grooves. They are attractive, well-made, very ergonomic, and reasonably priced.

I like how Hogues that they show in stock can be at my house in 2 or 3 days, the San Diego area isn't that far from central AZ, too close for the post office to mess up.
But I've found most Hogues to be rather big for average hands like mine. Even the no finger groove versions.

I've took the rasp and sandpaper to these no-finger groove Cocobolo grips twice now making them thinner and not so dang long, and they are better but I'll probably reduce them again.
That clip that holds the Hogues on at the bottom of the frame sticks down quite aways, so you can't reduce the excess length much without a re-think on how to secure the grip.
Round Butt K/L frame:

They were much fatter before. I do like a thinner grip but with a palm swell in the middle.

The only Hogue grip that has felt perfect right as they come are these no finger groove, checkered Goncalo Alves ones for the J frame square butt.
They are scaled down nicely for the J frame, again with a nice palm swell and fit my hand great.

I've long liked the Ahrends Retro Combat grips and was bummed to learn that he was no longer in the grip business.
A member here let me know he had some spare Ahrends and sent me a pair to try. But they were the smaller banana grip ones, and just felt too short for my 4 inch .44 mag.
I'm keeping my eye open for some Retro RB to SQ. Conv. on E-Bay but expect they will be well north of $200.

I haven't been too impressed with most of the Altamonts I've seen, but last year when I got the Model 63 I decided to try some.
I placed the order for some Super Rosewood checkered and got an e-mail about a week later that the order was received, and I could expect them in about 2 months.

I called asking "why that long as the website said they were in stock" ? The guy said that all of their grips shown are already produced but none have the finish applied until an order is placed.
Takes 2 months to apply the finish I guess.
So I cancelled the order and got Hogues instead.

Really nice quality and decently priced, but Herretts have been my go to stocks for a long time. My experience with Altamont and Eagle has been less than stellar. Too much wiggle in the fit.

These are Badger's. They were very reasonable. They're not Brown's but I think they look pretty good and they feel nice. They are certainly better than those ghastly, pressed, Altamonts or what ever those things were that came on it. I took them off as soon as I got the gun home.

I agree. Going to look back and kicking ourselves about missing the opportunity to pick up more of Kim Ahrends grips.

Ahrends was the best bang for the buck, imo.

I was always hoping that someone would take over Ahrends operation and start it back up . But with the same quality of course.
