Does anyone know the production totals for the Smith & Wesson Model 629 Carry Comp 44 Magnum 3 inch barrel Performance Center Model date of production is 2008. Also how can you tell if a particular gun is a Lew Horton issue.

Strange thing, I just got off the phone with Smith & Wesson Customer Service. I provided the serial number of my gun to them, listed above, and they advised that they could not tell me the production number of these particular guns that were made. The customer service representative advised me that Smith does keep this information but that they can't release it to the public. Does anyone know why this is?? Smith could offer no logical explanation.
 
There are anti-gun pieces in the media CONSTANTLY now, a real uptick. Perhaps S&W has reason to believe a phone inquiry may lead to the number being mentioned in an article and used against the firm. For all they know, you may be a reporter. As company policy, it's inconvenient for a consumer, but probably wiser in general. Just an opinion...
