Hello everyone,

The past couple of years I’ve improved my collection of S&W revolvers. This 586-4 2.5” is one of my top favorites and the wait for the letter of authenticity was well worth it last year. I was pleased to receive the additional information provided with the letter. Looking forward to adding some more in the near future.

Take care,
Justin

Good Lord! There is nothing like a mint revolver. I have an unfired 15-2 in box from 1967. Haven’t fired it yet and doubt I will. My son has already claimed it as his. He couldn’t care less about the plastic auto loaders. I raised that kid right!

That is a beauty - I was talking to a forum member who had one that he was considering selling, but it didn't work out. I have never seen one in the wild. They are rare.

Would love to have one, but it may never happen.

What a Gem!

Justin, great find and awesome looking gun. I am also looking for the same in the 3 inch version. You mentioned that the Roy Jinks Factor Letter included some additional information. Did it happen to mention how many 586-4 2.5's were manufactured and how many 586-4 3 inch's were manufactured?

Thanks
Pat

The letter above (image 3 of 5 of the original post) states 735 of the 2.5” and 200 of the 3”. No way to know if those are the complete totals of all production runs.

I can now say that I've actually seen one! - just not in person. Great find, congrats. I had heard they existed, never saw one for sale. Just the info on the production numbers is great knowledge. I thought these would make a great carry piece and started looking for one, not knowing how rare they actually were. After looking for almost a year, I gave up and focused on finding a nice 19 that would fit the bill instead and lucked into a perfect one just before Christmas. Congrats again! Bill in MA

I don’t recall if I read or heard this information, possibly from a local collector, but supposedly a very small (around 200) batch of 3” 586’s chambered in .38 special ONLY were made. I think these were specifically ordered and shipped to Brazil for the Army or Police. I heard this a couple of years ago so it may not be %100 accurate. Mr. Alan, could you confirm?
