Thanks for the suggestion. I placed it where it is simply because I thought it looked better aesthetically being somewhat centered on the rail, and didn't consider that. Even though the red dot is light, it makes sense to get the weight away from the front as much as possible. I will probably move it back some.
This is my first experience with a red dot on a revolver and was a little reluctant to even put one on it. On one hand, it spoils the lines of the revolver, but on the other, I can see how it would help with accuracy. I figure that S&W put the rail on it for it to be used, but it looks cool even without a red dot on it. I haven't been able to shoot it yet, so I may eventually change my mind.
I'm wondering just how the red dot being so high above the bore will effect accuracy.
