It depends on your expectation! The Ergo Grip does reduce perceived recoil to a significant degree compared to the usual Uncle Mikes grips factory installed on many J Frame models. At least that is my experience with the Ergo Grip on my 340-1.

Works great for me on my 640-1, and I only shoot .357 Magnum loads from it these days. I've discussed it on a number of threads (you can search on my name and "ergo"), including the ones linked below.

I had them on a 642. Mitigated recoil and enhanced pointability and consequently, accuracy. My perception was that it would have had a negative effect on retention in a struggle. I'm old school and what they drummed into me in the academy wouldn't let up. I switched back to Uncle Mike's boot grips. If that isn't a concern for you, I think you'll like them.
