Hey guys,

I want to remove the Ladysmith script from my Ladysmith. Yeah I know I shouldn't care but I do. I did some serches and I just saw some references to Flitz. Any more help?

I also would like to install a tritium dot up front. It seems to be roll pinned on. Any tips? Where to look?

Greg - welcome to the forum, I'm going to ask a dumb question. Is the lady smith have a matte finish or standard finish? You can polish it off but with a matte finish you will need to polish the complete gun or have it bead blasted.I would polish the whole gun myself.

It is stainless and appears to be bead blasted. A dull stainless finish I guess.

I'm thinkin' it would be easier to change the way you're looking at this subject; it's not FOR ladies, it IS a lady. How could you mind taking out a lady, especially one so drop dead gorgeous?

My wife uses a S&W 640-1 as her CC gun - to help her get on target quickly, and to have a night sight, I installed one of these...

XS Express Sights

It works great for her. It's not a fine "watch me shoot the button off his shirt" sight, but a quick, get on target and fire combat sight.

It's easy to install - a few swipes of a file to fit the blade of the new sight to the slot on the barrel, and then drill a hole in the sight to allow the pin to be put back in. (I used a drill press)

Hope this helps,
Bob S.

p.s. I have a Lady Smith 65-5 357 mag. - leave the script on the gun. If you take it off, fate will make the value of Lady Smiths go through the roof just to piss you off!

Have you considered changing out the sideplate? Would that work and still preserve the script?

Ladysmith... whatever.

But improved sights on a defensive handgun are worth considering. Most will agree the factory fixed sights on a stainless S&W leave something to be desired. While tops in the rugged department, they are not exactly high visibility. For defensive shooting, up close and fast, you need something you can pick up fast with your peripheral vision even as the gun is coming up. To my thinking night sights aren't really needed on a close shooting pistol. Consistent presentation, trained muscle memory and a flashlight work much better. For sights I think I'd have the stock front sight knocked or milled off and go with the XS Big Dot front sight mounted in a dovetail. The Big Dot front sight is available with a tritium insert and that's a night sight I could live with. With the XS sight, when the fat hits the fire you just drive that big white dot to the target and stop the threat. The dovetail does allow adjustment for windage to zero the new sight. Whoever cuts the dovetail could also improve (and bead blast) the receiver cuts that make up the rear sight on your Ladysmith.
