Well, here it is. A Model 438. I really like them. The SW Catalog shows production from 2009-2011. Some threads suggest longer. Had one years ago. Gave it to my father-in-law when his plastic semi-auto proved unreliable. That was at least 10 years ago. So, glad to find this one at a great price. Of course, today's great price is slightly more than it cost new.

Anyone else have a 438?

438

I love my 438 😀. I have always been partial
to the humpbacks. This is my bedside gun which
I have in a cheap fobus paddle holster, mounted to the side of the bed. It’s the first thing I grab when something goes bump in the night. It stays loaded with Speer gold dots.

I love the j-frame Airweight Bodyguards. I have three of them. A first year 638, a nickel 38 no-dash, and a blue 38-2 (my EDC). I think they are one of the best EDC j-frames available.

Great photos! :) I once owned a 438 about a decade or so ago, and I have regretted it ever since. Indeed, the 438 is an excellent configuration.

One of these days I will finally come across a humpback for sale. Like a dummy I passed on a new in box 638 for $450 a few months ago. A stop at the shop a month later and of course it was gone. I would much prefer a no lock blued gun, but the chances of finding one in my area is about the same as buying that winning lottery ticket
