Buddy of mine just purchased a Model 619 and we're both stumped on it. My 3rd edition doesn't list any information for a PC gun for either the 619 orn620 and I don't recall my Father's 4th edition having any differing information either.

The 3rd edition does mention a 681-5 as a PC special order for Camfour back in 2001. It was a 3" or 4" with the same barrel, but different front sight, 7 shot, and had the PC logo on the left side just below the cylinder release.

The 619 is basically the same gun. A L-frame, fixed sight, 7 shot gun. This one has the lock removed and plugged. Also pretty sure those stocks aren't original to the gun.

My understanding is that the 619 and 620 were released in 2005 and were commercial flops and production ceased soon after. Never heard of a PC addition for one.

Anyone have a clue about this gun. When he gets it in, he'll send me more photos.

My guess is it has a PC 686 barrel swapped onto it, along with a lower front sight blade for the fixed rear. And S & W would never disable the IL.

Of course, a letter of authenticity tells all.

The gun is used, so the previous owner more than likely disabled the lock.

That's my guess too, but I think it's a PC 681 barrel. A Performance Center revolver should have a PC logo on the frame, not the standard S&W trademark.

Numrich offered those barrels in the past.

Maybe it's just the camera, but it looks more like a 6-shot K-frame to me. Is it actually marked 619?
The gun in the OP's photo is a 6-shot. The cylinder stop notches are over the chambers. Cylinders that accept an odd number of cartridges (5 or 7) have the notches between the chambers (inline with the flutes).

Correct. So aside from the appearance of being the slightly narrower K-frame (to me, I may very well be wrong), for this to have started out as a 619, someone would have had to convert it to a six-shot. As I recall, all the 619s were seven-shot. Very strange gun! I like the barrel, though.

As others have mentioned, the barrel has been swapped and is a 681 PC barrel. It is not a factory Performance Center gun or would have the PC logo on side of the frame like Chad mentioned above. Cool gun but definitely did not leave the factory like that.

The 619 and 620 were two piece barrels from the factory with a "light lug" profile that leaves the ejector rod exposed (like on a Model 10). The currently installed barrel is a one piece barrel, so the gunsmith who changed the barrel also removed the tabs from the frame to allow it to accept a one piece barrel.
Your barrel has a dovetailed front sight which will afford you a degree of adjustability that the original barrel's fixed sight didn't have.
It's not a factory Performance Center gun, but it looks like a nice shooter. Enjoy using it.

I saw the gun for sale also and scratched my head wondering about the odd configuration. My guess was also a barrel swap and possible cylinder swap from 7 shot to 6.

Regardless of what actually happened in its history, it’ll probably make a great shooter as JRD mentioned.

The dovetail front sight is definitely a plus.
