Default S&W Governor issues...

The Chief bought a Governor today and came down to try it out..so we went out back to shoot it. Tried some 2 1/2" 4.10 slugs he got with the gun...new factory loads(made in USA) ...second one jammed up the revolver and the hull had to be ..persuaded.. back into the cylinder before it would swing open. Seems the hull came off the brass and jammed into the barrel. Swell. I don't have any 410 ammo as I own no 410 weapons.

Decided to try some 45acp..so I loaded 6 in EZ moons that I use in all my 45acp revolvers....BUT the cylinder would not close! It needs moon clips to use 45acp...but he didn't have metal ones to try (neither do I,all EZ moons) and no 45 colt ammo...so he took it home..after 2 rounds. He said something about returning it..

Not exactly encouraging..glad it's not mine!

Just bad luck or are these Governors fussy..

I would guess bad luck. I've shot mine without any issues. Same brand ammo too. 45 Auto with moon clips, 45 Colt and 410 slugs and Hornady Critical Defense. It's a fun range toy. Just have to make sure the cylinder is cleaned well if you shoot a lot of "short" rounds and then try and shoot the 2-1/2 shells, they can get tight.

I've also had issues with some .410 ammo in my Governor. He needs to try some different shells until he finds what works in his gun. Using steel moon clips, I've had no problems with 45 ACP. Also no problems with 45 Colt. Personally, I would not give up and return it without trying other ammo options.

He returned it already. Only paid $400 (he works at the gun shop part time) and offered it to me...but I'm not interested in it either.

He's not a revolver guy anyways and an out of the box balk is all he needed for an excuse to dump it.

Is it just me, or does the majority believe the customers should try different ammunition samples------rather than the folks who designed and made the gun------and proceed accordingly?

LORD---have mercy!!

Ralph Tremaine

Here's a thought! The two parties can meet in the middle. S&W can supply samples of ALL the different ammunition possibilities---and the customers can try them out. Then, if/when there are problems, the factory can conduct an inquiry---something along these lines perhaps: Did you load the cylinder with your left hand or your right? Then, regardless of the response, tell the poor, beleaguered customer they should have used the other hand. That should prolong the agony long enough for the customer to give up, and throw the gun in the river---or the lake/ocean---or a handy sewer opening.

If a gun...ANY gun gives me an issue, be it functional or lacking reasonable accuracy...off it goes!

Unless I need an extra short club or paperweight.

Life is too short to deal with guns that disappoint.
