Looking for a way to carry my recently aquired 500ES. Any advise on a holster? Is there suppose to be a cushion at the top of the rear of the rubber Hogue grip? Mine seems to have an empty cavity in where it meets up with the back of the frame and upper Hogue grip? When I called S&W customer service about it, he said that is how it suppose to be? I also asked about a swivel stud at the bottom of the grip that I've seen in articles on the 500ES because mine didn't have one, and he said its and extra option? Were these only put on gun writers 500ES guns only?
Thanks,
Dennis

the swivel came on the ones with the fiber optic front site...red ramp from what i have seen does not have it....its a simple addition if you want the swivel.
galco makes a great holster (L719WC)very nice fit...as to the top of the hogue grip...its thick padded rubber...and you will be way glad it's there!!LOL
anyway...hope this helps!

I was worried about that! Mine doesn't have that soft pad in the back, and somehow it came off somewhere. Called Hogue about it, and they said it happens, but because the grip is a S&W proprietory thing, I need to call S&W with the problem. Right now I have a Pachmayr compact round grip from a 357 Mag I use to have. Actually makes the gun look more balanced! Not sure how its going to handle the recoil, but better than the Hogue that was on it, until I get another that has that padding.
Thanks,
Dennis
Don't really need the swivel.
Just tried that (L719WC) in google search, and no hits?

Mine came with the red ramp front sight and the stainless swivel. Apparently they've made some changes and for a short while these weren't even available because the vendor that supplied the case couldn't.

Great pics ohiococonut. Dave Johnston makes a great rig called the "guide's choice" holster. It's the best I've seen. Here's a link...

kennyb,
Called S&W, and they told me to send mine back and they'll replace it. Didn't want to wait for shipping or grips, so asked customer service to send me a new grip, and I'll charge it with my credit card. When I return the defective grip, then he would credit my card. He said that works, and took only a few days. Was going through my junk box and found a Pachmayr round butt that fits great on my 500 ES. I think it came off a K-frame snubbie I use to have? Fits perfect for my small hands. Now all I need is a holster. Seems like the Galco might be the most economical.

The holster is around $150. You can also buy reloads to hold your extra ammo for around $20 each...you can see some in the pics on his site.
I bought the holster and 2 reloads for pig hunting with my 500. The rig makes it possible to comfortably carry the X-Frame all day chasing after those critters. I love it.
The Simply Rugged pancake holster looks like a dandy as well if you'd rather carry on your hip.

Now that is a nice, secure system! Tucks out of the way, yet easy access.

I have an EPS #77 for my 4" 500. It carries very well. EPS will custom make belt slot size, etc.
