A pair and a spare-44 magnum style
I’m sure most of you guys have seen the new American handguner
I always go right to JT’s articles 
He’s showing some perfect packing pistols and mentions one of my favorite quotes from Mr Smith…
A pair and a spare
I try to live by that, be it guns, chainsaws, wrenches ect ect
I’m pretty sure some of you are the same
I’d like to share a set of mine and I’d also love to see yours
Some of the guys that have been hanging around here for a bit know I like 629’s
I really do and the 4” guns are my favorites
I think they are a perfect fit for bumming around the woods and with the right kind of leather, they work for me in town too
Here’s my absolute favorite set and also one of my oldest and most used 4” guns. It a 629-1 that’s been rebuilt twice by the factory. The last time I also had it refinished and it’s living an easier life. The pair that goes with it a standard no dash and a transitional thats pinned but non recessed.

Very nice, always good to have a "pair and a spare." Here are the only P&R ones I own. A 4 inch that turned up in a small shop in the Texas Panhandle a few years ago and a scratched up 6 inch.

You seldom hear the "pair and a spare" term these days. It was used to describe a most desirable firearm and two more of the same. I think it was coined by a well-known prolific handgun writer of the "50s and '60s, Kent Bellah, of Saint Jo, TX. If he didn't come up with the term, he used it when virtually no one else did.

In guns, I don't have any "Pair and a spare". But I do have a few pair with a spare pair! Ruger Vaqueros, 1911's & J-frames.
Just remembered. I have 3 Sig 220's in 45 with a 245 as a backup!
In rifles, best I can do are Pairs. AR's, M-1 Carbines, Rossi 92's and Marlin 1894's.

Some nice early 629’s showing up

I’ve got another pair and a spare to show
This set is also made up of 4” guns
The first one is a -2 mountain revolver that Magnaport did a little work on
The second one is a regular -6, it’s my main shooter and belt gun, has a mater of fact right before this picture it was under the seat of my tractor
And the third one a 329pd that came with the most beautiful set of wood stocks I’ve seen on a modern day smith

This is my pair and a spare, top to bottom, 629, 627, and 686. All cut for moonclips. I know only one is .44 mag, but my 29's and 629's are all over the place as far as barrel lengths, and these are kind of a matched set!

The obsessive don't want tiny scratches to show even on stainless guns. The almost invisible scratches must be polished out. This "refinishing" allows the owners to sleep well at night.

That old dash one was looking pretty ratty.
I wore out two set of the old presentation style pachs.
On one set the little metal stiffener's wore through and scared up the grip frame. It has been packed miles on the belt and rode many more in trucks, skidders, tractors and packs.
The last time I sent it in for unlocking and rotating backwards
I asked if they could polish it back to a factory finish
The grips it currently has on are the original targets it came with
Back then most guys took them off at the shop and put pachs on, some guys left the factory grips right at the gun shop

How do you like the PC models, especially the 629 PC and 686 PC for shootability and carryability? I've been eyeing one or the other for a while...

I like them a lot! I have shot some matches with all 3 of these, but in all honesty I haven't put any magnum rounds through the 629, just mid-range loads. I am carrying it this winter though with a .44 special load in a Kramer horsehide belt scabbard and it carries just fine.

Thanks for the response! I am really considering one just for something different. I like the size of 44 rounds and ability to shoot specials. I don't have a "need" for grizzly slaying 44 mags but the 44 special rounds appeals to my interests in a snub package... but so does the 686 PC since I have a 640 Pro 357... but variety and such is the spice of life, right? Haha.
It would also be an excuse to the wife to finally invest in reloading too... 
They all look sharp, I can tell you that!

This has been like thumbing through the Sears "Wish Book" when I was a kid.
I don't have a "pair and a spare" anything. Oh wait. Sort of if I stretch the definition. I do have a pair of 4.2" Colt Pythons, and a 4" 686. That's about the best I can do.
But I sure enjoyed the show here.

Best i can do is "used to" have a pair and a spare. Sold one to finance other things. And from back when no one competed for used 696's.

In a DA I am partial to longer barrels of 6" or so, but SAO shorter is better. The pic is a -4 and-5.

I grabbed this -1 last year to replace one I had sold years ago. When a major unexpected event happened I put it up for sale hoping to turn it quickly. Thankfully time was on my side and I didn't need to sell. Mighty fine revolver.

I don't have a pair much less a spare, I do have a no dash 629 4" that's been Magna-ported. It wears a set of Curt Harlow "Cokes", I also have a set of killer stags with medallions for it and a presentation case. It's the last S & W that I'd ever part with, learned that lesson the hard way after parting with the first 4" no dash several years earlier. Cost me nearly 2x as much to replace it.
