Default Price check on a John Jovino 25-5 45 colt

Found one at a LGS and he is asking 2000 and won't budge on price. Hard chrome, Rd butt, modified barrel. Yeah or nea.

I have a 25-5 that is one of my favorite guns, but I would not spend 2000 dollars on a gun that is not original. The only value is in the name of the gunsmith that modified it. I would rather have a M24 distributor exclusive. Just me

Sorry, but I disagree. The value is in the custom work done to the gun, and the name of the gunsmith assures us that the work was done correctly. Since S&W never made a .45 Colt round butt snub (that I'm aware of), like they did the M24, then the only way to get that configuration is by having it customized. I think $2k is a fair price for that gun but not a bargain.

In my opinion if in excellent condition it's roughly a 2500 gun.

One must recall the historical reason for such a set of modifications. Jovino took factory revolvers that fit one set of needs/desires and modified them into a serious fighting platform for a totally different set of needs/desires. Most of this work was done in the days before one could find a good fighting auto-pistol of a compact size, not to mention that a significant percentage of serious shooters were stuck under regs that mandated revolvers.

It is probably a fair price. At this time in my life, it is not worth it TO ME for lots of reasons, but it is a quality item that serves a purpose and does so very well. It is worth far more than the factory revolver if one is applying the primary purpose of a sidearm - fighting. Every other use is a mere side show.

That’s a very fair price for a .45 Colt Jovino, especially if it can be verified via letter. You may never see another come up for sale again.

Default Jovino 25-5

How do you know if it is Really a Jovino.
If it has not been lettered, you are taking a chance.
If you were to have that same work done by a custom gunsmith
Today, it would probably cost you $2000 anyway.
So, if you like it, buy it!

Default As much as I like a model 25 in .45 Colt, and that is a lot!

I would not give two Gs for that gun. For that money I would be looking to pick up another 25-7 to be a backup for the one that I already have.

Hello,
For me, I would say yes. The ones I have seen had the barrel stamped Effector. There are many members of this forum with much knowledge on these particular guns. Some may chime in with their comments.

Default Jovino

Generally I agree with what you are saying. But there are certain gunsmiths whose names will command the premium. Jovino is one.

The last one I sold was a later Effector marked Jovino. The Jovino shop did not mark them until later. I sold it for north of 2K.

I bought mine from the John Jovino Gun Shop on Grand Street in Mnahattan in the early 1980's. I was recently offered $1800 (which I passed on). It can be seen here:
