Default Spotted a clean 642-1 no lock

**Confirmed with S&W today that its from 2016**

Looking at a very lightly used snub with box. CZZ serial prefix-any idea on the year?

I really wanted to find a .38spl 640 but the ones Ive cone across are all $150-$200 over the 642. Thanks for any help, pics will follow if I get it.

OK, I'm a little confused. You say that you're looking at a no-lock 642-1 from 2016 with s/n prefix CZZ. According to the SCSW 4th Ed., the 642-1 was produced from 1996-2002, and the 642-2 with lock was introduced in 2002 (although there was a special run of 642-1s in 2008 with prefix DCM). I own a 642-2 (s/n CMW8598) from 2009, and I thought that the 642-1s were discontinued. The CZZ prefix is definitely 2016, so somewhere there's a disconnect. Did S&W continue to manufacture 642-1s after the introduction of 642-2s?

Yes, the 642-1 and -2 were both made at the same time and are both still in production. The -2 did not replace the -1.

Its not, all good in da hood

Oh and on the bottom of the box there's a big label with all kinds of info on it. One of the printed markings reads "Waved: Aug 04, 2016 15:19". Never thought to look on the bottom of the box before LOL.

Bought a very decent 640-1 LEO Trade-in years ago. Had an FFL, so I bought four and bought the best one. Sold my 642-1 no lock soon afterwards.
The 640 is like a multi-tool, to me. Great gun.
