629-6 classic DX
Looking for information on the dash six run of the DX revolvers
Amount produced and years offered?
I’ve had this gun for maybe 20 years
I hate to use the term rare but…
I’ve never seen another, I’ve never even seen a photo of one on the forum
Maybe 10 years ago there was a thread on the DX’s and a member stated he’d never seen one but they were catalogued?
I have seen a few of the earlier revisions in the wild and almost bought a nib-3 version years ago but really didn’t want to do business with the gentleman who had it
This one’s complete with spare rubber grips, package of different front sights and test target
Does anyone here have one? Seen one?
Any help is appreciated

I have one just like that. I've been shooting Metallic Silhouette with it for over 25 years. I would have to go look at it to see what the dash number is. It still shoots as good as new.

Are those the original grips? That’s probably the best test target I’ve seen for a DX.

No numbers for you Chris. I have a dash 3 DX and while it's an accurate shooter, with the full lug 8 3/8" barrel, it starts getting heavy real quick. My test target doesn't have near as good of a group as yours but noticed at some point the factory brought the targets in from 50 yds to 25. Hopefully someone will come along with answers for you.

I have the 6" (or 6.5") version. I don't use it very often but did some initial load development work and then put it away.

Very curious, I believe they started with the lock guns in 2002

Gotta love a dash 3
The one I had lined up to buy was a 6 1/2”, kinda wish I had now
I believe the target distance changed towards the end of the dash 4’s.
I wonder if these are mentioned in the standard catalog?
Hopefully this thread will stay up for a while and give others a chance to see it

It appears that the -3 versions of the DX classics were held to a higher accuracy standard as they were al tested at 50 instead of 25 yards.

What fantastic revolvers! The one, for which I am the caregiver, is a 629-5 Classic DX. It is my deer hunting companion and has taken one 5 point thus far. Armadillos are no match for for it and coyotes won't come within range, yet.
The accuracy of my CDX is more than satisfactory! This one was a display model at a Shotshow several years ago. The dealer, from whom I obtained it, had an agreement with S&W to buy all of the display models. It was in 99.5% condition when I acquired it an came with S&W Hogue grips, all of the front sight blades but, not the wooden grips or the target.
I got it to shoot and hunt with and it has never let me down. It may not feel the same way about me!

The first 629 with a lock was the -6 revision. Does your gun have one? The shape of the frame in the area of the hammer looks like a non-lock gun. If so, that's a REAL oddity - maybe one of a kind.

Chris, in the section for the 629 DXs, the 4th Edition says that it was discontinued and combined with the regular Classic in 2002. I don't know if the product numbers got it wrong but they show 103646 as being an 8 3/8" made in 2001. I hope this gets you closer buddy.

Well I guess that explains why I’ve never seen another or even a picture of one until Paul put his up
Probably a pretty small run of them done the last year
I had the 2002 catalog stashed away, have to see if I can find it
