Default Model 64 barrel length question?

We know that there has been a small number of Model 10's built with 2 1/2" barrels. Does anyone know if any Model 64's were built with 2 1/2" as well?

Regards,

JFOHIO

No, not that I have seen - 2, 3 and 4" only. But you can probably make one from a longer barreled version.

The 3" in a K frame is probably the sweet spot as it allows for a full length ejector rod; I don't think the 2.5" does, and the 2" surely does not. With a RB, it is a pretty flexible platform. Had my 4" M66 RB cut by BMCM, and it carries and shoots nicely.

I think that the 2.75 " barrel in my M66-8 gives good ejection; it's for sure a sweet spot for me.

3 inch barrel was the shortest length with the K-frame revolvers that use the tip of the ejector rod as the forward cylinder lock to use a full length ejector rod. Modern production K-frame 357's that have the forward lock moved to the crane can have a full length ejector rod with a 2.75" barrel length.

There was a small run of 2 1/2" Model 10s that allegedly went to the FBI. Someone on the Forum has one and posted a photo. That's been a few years ago, though.

I have never seen one. It does not mean that they did not make a few.

I believe a few went to the Michigan State Police as well.

No 2.5” Model 64’s that I know of. The 2.5” Model 10 went to the FBI and MSP. Back in 2017 or 2018 a dealer at the Oaks, PA gun show had three ex MSP 2.5” Model 10’s for sale for, as I recall, $699 each. I decided to see what else was at the show first, and when I went back an hour later they were gone. I still kick myself for letting them get away. That was a valuable lesson, don’t think just buy!
