Default New 629 Deluxe

Hello I just purchased a new 629 Deluxe and I was a little disappointed looking over the gun with how dirty it came out of the case. This is my first Smith and Wesson and don’t know if this is normal or not.

Thank you in advance

Be thankful it has been factory fired. Gives them a chance to fix anything that needs tweaked. Those guys don't get paid to clean guns…

Thanks for the quick reply. That is all I wanted to hear and I understand/appreciate that. I would however disagree with your last line. Good to know what to expect from SW going forward.

First thing I do with any gun used or new is strip it, clean, and lubricate it. They don't clean them after test firing at the factory and they're usually dry as a bone inside.

It will be a lot dirtier after you take it to the range. I have a 629-6 3 inch that pretty much just stays dirty; has one of the best DA/SA triggers of any of my 44s. Enjoy yours.

Check your owner's manual, It will say clean & lube your new gun, some may have little machine shavings, or junk from the factory, bought a new Springfield XDM 45 ACP, was jamming, took it back to the Gun Shop, He say's did you clean it ? I said no Its new, Cleaned It, Problem Solved.. good luck with your new gun..

That's totally normal for a new gun. Give it a good cleaning and very light dab of oil in the friction spots and you'll be ready to go.

Congrats it's a beauty!

This is how mine looked the day after I bought it last week. They clean up nicely.

Most shooters enjoy cleaning their revolver, after a day at the range, and making it look pretty again, until next time.

Clean it, lube it, shoot it, repeat.

Enjoy!

Thanks for all the replies I had a feeling it would be normal I just had different experiences with my Sig P365 and Beretta M9. The Sig (my first gun) was spotless and was even lubricated very well. The M9 .22lr was a little dirty and greasy but everyone told me it's a .22 don't expect world class craftsmanship. With this revolver I did expect top quality and while the chamber gets dirty the trigger and hammer look nasty. The one on display at the store where I had the gun transferred had a way nicer trigger like the SW website shows. Anyways I see mine is no exception. I tried to clean it but this "military grade solvent" by breakthrough does not cut it. Any suggestions on how to polish up the trigger? It's a beautiful revolver nevertheless I can't wait to hit the gong at 200 yards.

My Sig 365X sees a lot of carry and practice at the range. Wait till you see how that polymer frame looks after some use. A little green scotch brite makes the scuffs and scratches look better but I gave up worrying about the cosmetics of a plastic carry gun, (I do love the flawless function, concealment and capacity of that thing).

I like the stocks they put on that gun. Classy! Wipe it down with some Flitz some rainy day when you're bored. Amazing how it gives that mirror-like finish on the S&Ws. (For some reason I can't get the same result on my Ruger; maybe different stainless or something?)
Enjoy that gun. Of course, the best part, besides shooting, of getting a brand spanking new gun is wiping it down and going over every nook & cranny...like a new car. I've got a 629-6 and with magnums it's a very accurate gun; the trigger is the best of all my revolvers.

It could use a little rub down but it’s a good little gun that shoots better than me.

I don't like the marks on each side of the rear sight. Are they just dirt or actually scrapes on the metal?

I noticed the exact same thing but didn't mention it. If it's scuffed like that it would be unacceptable to me on a new out of the box gun.
