If you install a cylinder end-shake bearing do not use one larger than .002", there needs to be a small amount of clearance. So far as the barrel-cylinder gap is concerned it is very common for this to vary somewhat side-to-side. The gap is set after the barrel is installed in the frame.
The end of the barrel shank is final-fit by hand filing, not with a reamer on a piloted shank, so the squareness of the barrel is dependent upon the skill of the individual fitter using a hand file! Almost all revolvers vary a little bit because of this. It is just how S&W does this operation! Not all fitters have the same skill or concern when it comes to performing this operation unfortunately.
Don't worry about the B-C gap varying slightly side-to-side as it has no effect on accuracy or anything else. Many worry far too much about small details like this, but most shooters have no idea what the gap is or how square!
In short, no, S&W will not fix that as it is not an issue! I see warren (Protocol) beat me to this.
