Pawn shop find: 629-4 "Backpacker"
After a good cleaning and one coat of RenWax, plus touchup on a couple light dings (not pictured).

3" and 4" 629's and 29's in my opinion are the finest carrying revolvers made. Congrats on this acquisition!!!
44 spl or mag, it is so versatile for hunting, plinking, woods...
Very cool

Nice looking little Model 629. The question now is will you shoot and will it be with full power ammo? If you do, please post a range report.

Hmm... I never even considered putting wax on stainless.

The stainless alloy used in firearms is still a ferrous metal, so it can rust. If the rust is allowed to continue long enough, it can become pitting, it just takes longer than with carbon steel.

Probably at some point with a mix of .44 Special and .44 Mag.that I have on hand. I'm talking a couple cylinder's each. That sh1t's expensive. I mostly got it for the coolness and rarity. And to make up in part for the 629-1 that I sold off a few years ago. I had maybe $525 in the gun and sold it for $800, and wish I had it back. One of only a couple guns I ever regretted selling or trading off, the other being a Mark III Hi Power that I let go over a dozen years ago. Who knew?

Cool find! I really like the 3” 629s, dash 1-4. I use mine for ccw and backpacking duty. I have 2 dash 1s from LH, one is LNIB. I have declined an offer of $2k for it.

Great find OP! Wow that's a keeper there. I'd be on that in a heart-beat. I love 3"-4" L or N frames.
Since I picked up my 4" 624 about 6 weeks ago it's the only thing I carry now (IWB Simply Rugged Pancake). I've come to realize this is my Grail. All the rest sit in the safe anymore.

The humidity in my safes is 30% or less so rust has never been an issue.

In my 629-10 2 5/8, I like a 240 SWC over 11 gr Unique in 44 mag brass; I call it 44 Special +P+Length. (really a mid-range 44 mag.)

Unique can really shine in the 44 Magnum. Magnum cases, a 240 grain cast LSWC bullet, and 9.0-11.0 grains of Unique are often a real sweet spot for accuracy and gentle recoil.
