Price higher on a 17-6 then a 17-8?
Went to a local dealer and had one of each in nice condition, no box for either.
The 17-6 was $300 higher then the 17-8. What would justify that and what is the going rate on one? I did look at the ones that sold on GB and range from 750-850 plus adding tax and shipping fees

The earlier 17-6 is a higher demand iteration than the 17-8, especially if the -6 is a 4” gun. Also, sq butt combats came on most of the -6 whereas the -8 came with rubber grips. Lastly I think the -8 only came in 6” barrel with the alloy 10 shot cylinder. Some of the -8’s had issues with this cylinder.
Hope this helps with the price difference inquiry

Both are 6"barrels but I can see the combat grips adding value. Both guns were north of $1000

Even with the boxes, you would be overpaying at the price you mentioned. I sold a LNIB 17-8 with no turn line for $810 consigned 2 years ago. If the 17-6 was a 4” with factory combats most of us would be interested at 1k.

I bought an early 17-6 with the 4” no-underlug barrel a couple of weeks ago at an LGS for $600 out the door. It is a rarer configuration than a 6”.
I know I got it for a good price, but over $1000 is high.
