Need opinions for a trade
I have a 29-5 classic in mint shape, it’s the 8 inch model and someone wants to trade me a 6.5 inch 25-2 for it. I own multiple 29s and I currently don’t own a 25. Is it a good trade, value wise I believe they are to be about the same.

If the 25-2 is in the same (or darned close) shape as your 29-5 I would do that trade!

From the pics the 25 has a considerable score line where it’s been shot, hard to say how much but enough, the 29 barely has a turn line. I really wanted a 625 personally. The 29 was definitely a safe queen for someone.

If you really want a 625, don't do the trade. Wait for another trade with a 625, or sell yours and buy a 625.

I’ve found enough 625s for sale, just waiting for the right one to pop up for sale, the 25s are harder to find these days

You may want to check for oversized cylinder throats on the 25-2

Never knew that was a thing as I don’t know much about the model 25s. Is that a common occurrence for ones in 45acp?

Yes....certainly worth checking especially if you don't reload.

I don’t reload so that definitely causes concern, probably will just pass on it as I really want a 625.

No, I would not make the trade. It is not mint for mint. My guess is you may be losing out on 300. Besides, it is not what you want.
Just a note, the 29-5 is supposed to be at the top for a M29. I think it is drilled and tapped for a scope. The 25 is not. I could be wrong about the D&T, but I don't think so.
IMHO you are getting the less than desirable end of the stick and a gun you do not want

You are correct the 29 is d&t , it has all the upgraded features of the smith with the forged parts, when smith and Wesson was top of their game, they only made the classics for 3 years, order of rarity is 6.5 then the 8 inch and the most sought after the 5 inch.

Ditto that. If I already had several variations of the 29, but no variants of the 25.
I'm not a big fan of the really long-barreled revolvers though, so I'm kind of biased against an 8-incher.

While I am not a wealthy man, when it comes to hobbies I don’t put too much stock in “cash value.” The subjective value—that is, what it’s worth to me—is what is important.
If I can trade a thing I don’t want for something I do, that’s a win. The fact that someone on the open market might pay 20% more for my thing doesn’t much matter.
So my answer will come in the form of the question: which gun would you rather have: the 29 or the 25?

I have the Classic DX 5". Bought it new in 92. Less than 200 made so I have been advised.

I’ve had theee or four Model 29s and one 25-2. The Model 29s are long gone, the Model 25 isn’t going anywhere.
I don’t reload anymore, and disliked it when I did. Factory ammo from here on out for me. I can shoot .45 ACPs for half the cost of .44 Magnums, and actually enjoy myself.
I’d do the trade in a hot minute.

Right. Cost vs cost your right on ammo prices, but I have like 4 or 5 1911s in 45acp to have that covered.

I would rather have the 29 in a 5 inch if that answers any questions haha, I have a 3 inch 29 a 6 inch 29 and the 8 inch. I also have a 8 inch 629

If you're really looking for the 625, don't you do the trade.
Why trade just to be trading?

I would take the 25-2 .45 ACP.
In regards to the 625. I still prefer the old school 25-2.

That was an issued with the 25-5 (45 Colt) in the late 1970s / early 1980s. 25-2 (45 ACP) were noted for exceptional accuracy.

So if you are answering questions. Do the .44s all get Range Time or are they "Safe Queens"? Asking for a friend.

I don’t shoot 44 as much as 357. I’ve shot the 629 and I’ve shot my 3 inch 29 some, the 6 inch Lew Horton classic I’ve only shot 14 rounds through. Would shoot 44 mag more but it’s expensive.

Which one?
25-2, I don't have a 25-2 but I have a Pre-25, 5 screw 45ACP and I much prefer shooting it to my 29s.

That may be a good trade if they both are in equal condition. Not sure that is the case and it sounds like you really want a 625 anyway. I would pass this one up unless I could handle the 25 and it felt "right". I have both a 29-5 and a 25-2, love them both and would not part with either. This won't be the first time you've heard this here but you really need both!

Haha, smith and Wesson wheel guns are one of my favorite things to own and collect. I prefer the full underlug of the 625 compared to the partial on the 25, plus the 625 comes in a 3, 4 and 5 inch and I prefer shorter barrel. I always wanted a classic and found this 29 a few months ago and I couldn’t pass on it.

I wouldn’t make the trade just based on condition of 25-2 vs your 29-5.
If 25-2 was in like condition would swap, they are about even money in like condition in my area.
