19-5 4”
LGS has a 19-5 4” barrel blue with wood target grips on consignment. Not mint but not junk. Good shape shooter. What’s a good fair price?

"Fair price" around $500 but a realistic price in
today's market $700.
While it doesn't have the recessed chambers or
pinned barrel so many put a premium on, it is
my favorite for being a shooter. It also comes with
a smooth trigger for DA use, a feature I like.

I would expect to find one like that in the $500-700 range. Assuming no mechanical issues and approximately 95% finish.

$500 would be a steal and unheard of in these parts. A decent Model 10 can run $500. Assuming tight lock up, I'd be a buyer at $700, perhaps a tad more. The 19 doesn't turn up on the used market very often and the few I've seen tend to be pretty worn.

I bought this one in August of last year. My notes say $700, but I think that was the tagged price. I probably got $50 or so off.
Yea, it's not pinned and recessed, but otherwise it's the best Model 19 I've owned. Trigger is just great. Shoots like a dream. It's definately on my list of "keep this one."

Mine is a 4" P&R 19-3. I paid $800. I'd been looking for a long time and had seen several sell higher.

One thing I noticed when I was handling it was the rear sight was adjusted almost all the way right. Wonder if there’s an issue or if the person was just compensating for not knowing how to shoot.

I bought a 19-4 at a LGS back in January for $475. Has some light bluing loss but timing and lock up are great. Not really the "norm" but the private seller just wanted to get rid of it and needed money.

I'd say the 19-5 pictured by the OP should be in the $600-$700 range.

If it's on consignment likely a 10-15% commission charge would be added.
If so a $500 selling price drops it to $425 to the seller.
While I would think $500 would be nice price for a 19-5 shooter in a private sale unless it's a weak seller the magic number IMO is around $625, above that I'd be looking for a P&R 19-4.
The pros are the 19-5 and 66-2's I've handled usually have nice actions and the rr-wo sites and oem stocks are a plus.
Cons are the 19-5's I've seen like the 29-3 have a blue finish that's lower quality than previous versions, not crazy about the TM migrating to the left side but that apparently was done to open the right side plate up to commemorative engraving. On a side note SW ceased "blending or melting" the front of the ejector rod shrouds right side at the front where it meets the holster.not a pro or a con just a cosmetic change that was likely done to speed production by reducing man hours to finish them.

In re: the rear sight.....
Could be nothing. Or, as you mentioned, someone who had/has difficulty with fundamentals in sight use. Could have been someone making sure the sight was workable and didn't return it to center.
Unfortunately, without the ability to actually see if there was a problem with the rear sight, you may not know until ya got it to the range...
