Default Replacement visible front sight for fixed sight L-Frame?

Howdy Folks,

I have a S&W 296 in .44 Special with a pinned, fixed front sight. My aging eyes are really not working with the black ramp. I've tried painting it orange, but that doesn't really help. I'm looking for something more visible. However, finding a sight that is actually designed for a fixed sight L-frame isn't as easy as I had hoped. There are all sorts of "Hi-Viz" sights for L-frames, but they all seem designed for adjustable sight guns. I don't want a too tall front sight that is going to shift POI. Does anyone have any experience with one of these sights on a fixed sight gun? I'm also open to other suggestions.

Thanks!

Tell us the height of the current front sight. I may have a fiber optic one that will work.

Using my "expert" measuring skills I am getting .3125 or there abouts.

That seems really tall for a fixed sight gun. I have a 581 barrel that is .115 from the top of the ramp to the top of the sight. It would be helpful if we could see a picture of the gun and a closeup of the end of the barrel with sight. The 296 is quite a different gun from a 581. Maybe yours is that tall?

Yeah, I remeasured. I think a combination of poor eyesight and bad tools resulted in a miscalculation. I'm getting .250 or just slightly under this time. Picture is attached.

I have .250 tall fiber optic sights that will fit that. You can get .100 or .125 wide with red, orange or green fiber. For pics, look on the protocalldesign.com website.
