629-2 with 5 “ Barrel
Can anyone tell me anything about the M629-2 with 6“ barrel? It has an unfluted cylinder. It has BDZ prefix of the serial number. We asked someone today at a gun shop its value and he said we needed to make sure it wasn’t a Lew Horton, but never gave a value. Just trying to figure out a little about it as well as value, although not planning on selling. Thank you!
Edited to 6 in barrel.

Never seen or heard of one. Pics?
Is it a full lug or partial lug barrel?
Are you measuring from the end of the barrel to the front of the cylinder for barrel length?

Ditto the above, especially the barrel length verification. They did make a 5" barrel but I'm not seeing it with that prefix and unfluted cylinder in a -2. The gun shop will possibly assume you really just want to sell it so take their value estimate with a grain of salt. They did mention Lew Horton so they seem to be at least somewhat familiar with possible distributor specials.
Yes, post a pic please!

That's not a 5" barrel. Measure from the front of the cylinder.

Look up "Smith and Wesson 103616". Its the 6" Classic Hunter with unfluted cylinder from 1988. Some guns with the prefix you gave were shipped in 1989 so I think we're on to something.
Added - 5000 were made

My 629-4 has engraved 44 Magnum on the left side and the right side has 629 Classic Laser etched.

Does it look like this? Specifically the front sight?
That is the first version of the blued Model 29 “Classic Hunter”. I am not certain that the stainless Model 629 was produced with that 4-position front sight. As you can see above, later versions had more typical front sights.
