Default Well I did it, new L frame 686PC.

I have always wanted to get a bigger revolver and when I say bigger, I mean bigger than the J frames that I always have around. Well I walked into a local store last week and they were going out of business and after looking into reviews and getting some info from fellow owners, I bought the 686 performance center 357 magnum with 7 shot cylinder today.

With the rebate going on now and the great price I got on this NIB revolver, I am really happy with this purchase. I have been looking into accessories for it now and the list is growing for sure. I cant wait to get it to the range and see what it can do in my unexperienced hands. I am only familiar with the little J's so this should be fun.

Pics for your pleasure and any other owners, please chime in with your experiences and helpful info for the new to L frame shooter. Thanks...

Congrats on your new purchase. Every S&W fan should have some variety of 686 IMO. I imagine you’ll have fun with it. Should get quite a fireball outta the muzzle w/ hot .357s. Let us know how it shoots!

The 686 PC is a very fine revolver. The unfluted cylinder caught my eye several years ago. I took the liberty to perform a little cosmetic surgery on it.

I shot it over weekend just to test it out. 2 cylinders of lawmen 38 and 5 rounds of 357, 158 grn hydrashok. Had 2 38s fail to fire on first cylinder. Primer was not struck at all. Kept pulling trigger till they came around again and then they fired. Did not use the moon clips so i don't know what happened. Was recent production ammo too. Everything after did cylinder was fine. More testing to come.

My 686-6 is a little bigger. Also a 7 shot. Pro Series 5" barrel. One of my favorites! Bob

You shouldn't have to use moon clips to shoot this. The fact the the primers were not struck at all leads one to believe that something else is going on. Did you detail strip, clean and lubricate it prior to shooting? Maybe a burr on the firing pin is causing the firing pin to hang up?

Congrats on the new purchase! It does look sharp!

I've considered getting one myself. Your pics turned out great. Really makes me think I still may...
