I was wondering, how many, approximately, of these were used by S&W. I have one in the original shipping carton with the label stating 1 of 200. I'm sure that was not the only order S&W received (in ~2006) but it seems to me that the earlier cases are more common. Mine was made by Pocumtuck Wood Specialties of Easthampton, MA.

The gun pictured is from a much earlier vintage. Also, the Type 6 cases appear to be of a higher quality than the earlier one, especially concerning the hardware.

Great looking revolver W4. I like the cokes a lot, kind of a reddish cast to the wood.

My 6.5" dash 2 is from 1965 and the blue rivals some of my four and five screw 44's. The person at the factory was having a great day at the polishing wheel!

Thank you for sharing, I never get tired of looking at Smith & Wesson N-frames.

The newer cases are very well made but I wish they had a real wood bottom. I've had a couple like yours and the smaller ones with foam. I would assume the production of the gun was a run of 200 maybe, not the case. I think the newer Model 29's and such came in them.

I now use mine to display some of my custom stocks.

Actually the 200 is the number of cases. Here is the shipping label from the manufacturer to S&W. The liner is velvet like over a hard (not foam) holder made for a S&W #29. The brass hinges and dual latches are attached with Phillip's head screws and not just brass tacks. A much higher quality case than any S&W used previously.

I just reached out to Pocumtuck Wood Specialties of Easthampton, MA. to see if they can tell me how many of these boxes were made for S&W. Will report.
