Two question about 24-3
I have a 4 inch 24-3 from that run S&W did in the 80s. I have 2 questions.
What grips were correct? The gun was wearing rubber Hogues when I got it, but also got the box, papers, tools, etc. and a set of smooth targets the guy I bought it from said were the factory grips.
What would be a ballpark value? Gun is in 95%+ condition. Truth is I rarely shoot it, I might either sell outright or more likely use it for trade goods.
I'm currently on a trip, but I'll be back home Wednesday so can post a few pics then.

Here's my 24-3. Pretty sure yours should have grips just like these. I'd guess value is somewhere around $1k depending on condition. You say 95% but that suggests some visible blue loss to me, maybe from holster wear on the barrel and high points. If so, $1k is about right where I shop. If it is really better, more like 98% essentially showing no blue loss, it might go to $1200 and possibly more if you have the box/papers. Here in the Classifieds is a good place to sell it if you decide to do so. Good luck.

Without the pictures and with what you say it has the 1000+ sounds easily attainable.
Depending on true condition 1200 + may also be.

They came with wooden target grips. Your rubber Houges are aftermarket. I bought my 4" and 6 1/2" from J&G back in the day. One came with football cutouts; the other with speedloader cutouts. I don't recall ever seeing an ad for 24-3's with rubber grips.

I bought one last year from a forum member. It may have been fired but we both considered it to be in unfired condition. It is no longer unfired. Price was $1500 in with tools and papers but no box. It wears wooden target grips.
Shoot it before you decide to sell it. They are extremely accurate and fun to shoot.

I know the Hogues were added by the previous owner. And I know it's a good shooter, I've shot it a bunch in the nearly 20 years I've had it. It's just that interests change. I'm thinning the herd a bit, or flipping things into what I'm currently into.
Are smooth targets particularly desirable? If they are not the correct original grips I might be better off selling them separately and putting checkered targets on it.

If I had a set of smooth targets and was going to sell the gun I'd just put them on it. They're probably not technically correct but I like them and if I were considering the gun they would enhance the value, not reduce it. Certainly far better than the Hogues. Good luck.

The Hogues are long gone. I could put correct checkered targets on it (obviously not the original but at least correct). I have a few sets of those.
