When did Smith stop manufacturing the model 617 with an 8 3/8 inch barrel?

My 4th edition of the standard catalog says 8 3/8 discontinued in2002 .

There were a few early 617-6s made with the long barrel, not often seen.

Because they ran out of wheels to hold up the front end.

One of my favorite smallgame hunting revolvers, used 90%+ standing. I have an underlugged 8 3/8" 17 that gets used in IHMSA Smallbore, also usually shot standing. Granted, it's a bit much for steady one handed use.

Wheels would make it altogether unwieldy! (Might be good for a SAGE stocked, heavy barreled M1a, though....that and some wheelbarrow handles.)
