S&W M586-8 what does M stand for
I have a 686-5 and M586-8
what does M stand for in M586?
I see the 586/686-1 had a recall where M was added when mod was made….the M in mine is part of model number
thanks Jack

Some L frames were stamped M as an abbreviation for “model”. With more space in the yoke recess, early 586s and 686s were stamped “MOD”.
As you know, the separate M apart from the model number indicated the hammer nose/bushing replacement.
