Model 65-5 3” Magna ported and test fired only
A real beauty I bought ! Like new in box ! Looks like test fired only ? What is better for resale? A magnaported at their factory beauty OR all original 3” . This is a beauty ! Trying to get the most for it . Factory wood grips too. Thanks

IMO - the MagNaPort will hurt the value.

Original is better! That being said, had a 29-2, 4" Magna ported and it handled 44 Magnum loads with no pain. It depends on what someone wants. Bob

Deduct $100 per hole for porting.

In my opinion a magna ported pistol is worthless.

Is it just magnaported, or is it a conversion package model?
Magnaport conversions are pretty cool!
They do a full action job, an inverted muzzle crown, often some sight work, and of course, the porting.
Can you post some pics of yours?
Attached some pics from Magnaport. Last one is their mini combat conversion.
There is, in fact, a niche collector market for these, just like there is for Jovino "Terminator" conversions, or King Target conversions.
Sometimes, non-factory original is A-OK!!

I think the MagnaPort would be welcome shooting magnum loads in that gun. Obtained for a good price also. I have one and wouldn’t mind it being Magnaported. I don’t think it would hurt the value at all on mine since I had the factory “combat revolver” package done on it. I guess it would hurt the value for people who buy or collect only unmodified examples.
I only have one magnaported gun and I recently purchased it - a hard chromed 29-3. My first .44 magnum. I can’t testify to the recoil reduction as I never shot one not Magnaported.

Depends on the person. It wouldn't make a bit of difference to me being that Magnaport is a well-known and respected company. There are a lot of people who wouldn't care one way or another, and there are those who will desire it more because it's MagNaPort'd.
The porting haters do not speak for everyone. What's more important is that the OP sets his revolvers up for himself to enjoy instead of the possible next owner to enjoy. Again, there are plenty of people who see MagNaPort as a non-issue or added value. The OP would only need one of those people to purchase his gun if he was to sell, so the opinions of all those who don't like porting are kinda moot.

I don't think any factory mod hurts the value. Same with certain gunsmith's work - the Jovino Effector, for instance. There is a pretty strong market for those.
Keep in mind there is a market for everything, and firearms are no different. Those of us that think your gun is worthless with Magnaporting simply aren't in that market. Hell, there's folks out there that buy and sell RG revolvers and Lorcin semi-autos... even Hi-Points have their fans, who proudly post photos of their "Yeet Cannons" in forums like this.
Bottom line to me is, with all due respect to folks here, especially those I couldn't hold a candle to S&W knowledge-wise, if you want to sell a gun, there's someone out there willing - no, make it dying - to buy it. You just gotta find each other. Good luck!

I have a 629 Trailboss (3") that's ported. I'm sure there must be some increased muzzle flash in low light. However, I've shot it in low light and had no issues. I didn't really even think about it. I'm sure ammo playes a part. I don't remember what ammo I was using but it was issued factory, probably Gold Dot. I have no safe queens. All of mine get used or were in the past. The Op's gun would be a great carry gun. But I have no idea on value and I don't see collectors value when I look at a gun. It's just a matter of do I want it.

I have a 3" 65 that I got worked over in 1986 including Maga-porting.
All the "cool kids" were doing it!!
Still have it and carry it from time to time. Some benefits w/ full power .357s ..... but I tend to carry +P.38s in urban environments. So it's no "better" than my 3" 66-4.
Would I do another? No! In my limited experience they tend to go for less than stock guns.
