Saturday's Goal
This past Saturday. I left home hoping to find a 3"-barrel, model 10, at one of my area gun stores. I actually did find one. A model 10-5, 3", blue, with square butt, grip frame. It was wearing a Pachmayer presentation grip. It was however, in lower shooter grade condition. Not beat up, but had significant bluing lose. I am after one, in higher condition. While checking out the other inventory, I did find these two. One model 66-4 and a two-tone model 457. Here are some pictures. I will post the 457 in the semi auto thread. I believe it is one of the Zander Sports distributed guns.

I have been looking in display cases for a 3” Model 10 for years.
I haven’t found one yet. I know they’re not *that* rare; they must hide when they see me coming.

LOL, hopefully patients will pay off for both of us. If you are looking for a shooter. I will gladly share its location with you. It was priced at $525.00.

You can vastly broaden your percentage of success if you also lookout for a M65 or M13 3"bbl. They are basically the same gun but have the capability of firing 357 mag's. If you are not interested in shooting Mag's - just stick to 38 specials. At the end of the day they are pretty much the same gun and your percentages of finding one has tripled.

Very sound advice, chief38. Thank you. The only reason my search for the model 10, 3", is so narrow. Is because I already have 3" K frame models 13, 19, 64, and 65. Plus I am partial to blue guns and would take nickel too.

You brought home a 66-4 snub and two tone 457 on the same day? That's a GREAT day. Well done.

Yes, Sir I did. They were purchased one each, at neighboring shops and yes it was a very good day. Actually, two great days. I took them both to the range on Sunday and they shot very well at 7 yards. I even hit a few steel plates at 25 yards with the two of them.

My thumb-in-the-wind analysis is that the Model 10 was the least common 3” K-frame. Thats just based on how often I see them.
My theory is that by the time the virtues of the 3” barrel were “discovered”, more agencies wanted stainless, magnums, or both. Hence 3” Model 64s, 65s, and 13s are more common.
