I did notice it was pre lock.
I liked the 3' barrel but other than that it was a shot in the dark.

Great choice and a very good buy even if you paid the full $550 plus tax. My very favorite J frame and if I could have only one J frame it would be that one.

I’d like one of those at $550 too. Very versatile gun. The extra barrel length helps make shooting 357 worth it.

I have a -9 similar to yours. You couldn’t buy it from me at the price you paid for yours.

Not easy to find, worth a couple hundred more than you paid I think to someone who knows what it is and wants one. Not that I would sell mine at any price.

I paid $700 for a used a 3" 60-15 with the IL 3+ years back, and that was before inflation really set in. $550 is a steal for a prelock in this day and age. That's dime a dozen cheap striker-fired polymer pistol prices.

You did your sister-in-law a great service.

I sold one with the original Uncle Mike's rubber grips a year ago for $950.

A good one to keep and use. not one to flip for a profit.

Absolutely
Now the work begins to get her good with it.
Have plenty of HBWC's to begin and a model 43.

I have a lot of Smith & Wesson revolvers, but my 60-10 is my favorite. Finding one for sale at that price is a once-in-a-lifetime good deal!

Very nice. For the most part, I’m content with 38 +p at the top end in a lighter 357. Just saying, sometimes one hears reference to ‘practicing with 38’s, then carry or home defense with 357 loads’.

Again, it depends on context , and who is using it, for the chosen loads.

A handloader could split the baby with light 357 loads as an option.

I have a 60-4, but that 60-10 is probably the best of the whole Model 60 series in many respects. I wouldn't be planning on shooting a lot of 357s through it, but it's nice to have that capability... my -4 is loaded with 38s in the old FBI +P loads. I love the adjustable sights on a J frame, and being able to change ammo loadings without having to worry about hold over or under, or whatever... just adjust to suit!

I had one and it was my favorite woods gun. A deal came along to trade it straight across for a 19-3 6" nickel. I made the trade thinking I was coming out money ahead. Really all I did was trade my favorite woods gun for a safe queen.

So does she have a background shooting revolvers? Or is it just going to the Sock Drawer.

Because it takes practice to be proficient with a revolver. My tip is shoot only Double Action because if they think Single Action is easy that is how they will practice.

The other day on the Indoor Range a father and son were shooting and at 7 yards they could not shoot a group, just random hits on the target with a .38 snubby but they did give me their brass. They started off Double Action and then went to Single Action. (Note they did much better shooting a Glock 9mm)

Good point. You should practice with what you carry.

On my Police Department, you will shoot annually your carry ammo and the other Qualifications were WWB.

She has a mixed background right now..
Some She does very well with others not at all well.
She's very determined to shoot this well.
I'm not caring what she shoots well out of it yet.
And agree with the DA training.

I think the perfect revolver for SIL is a S&W four inch Model 10 or a 15, if she's pro-revolver. Otherwise the class my wife took all the ladies were sporting Glocks.

You did well with the purchase of that 60-10. However, a 3" .357 Magnum revolver is not what comes to mind when I think of a lady's handgun. That's a lot of revolver, whether the shooter is male or female. Practice, practice, practice. On the bright side, if it turns out that it's too much gun for her you have yourself a nice SS snubby. Good luck!

Perhaps not but it doesn't need to shoot full house 357's .
Some of her criteria was she wanted a 357 capable revolver.
We tried many.
This was the one that felt best to her.

Size weight and aiming wise.
To me that's a great start on getting her good with it.

We did it's first range trip.
We shot 38 special and it was right on with them.
She started off really rough with it.
So bad she had me try it and make sure the sights were close.

I did and shot a really nice group right at aimpoint.
She got determined after that and started ringing the steel pretty consistently.
