Short barreled S&W's are falling out of the sky lately. Here is a three inch 65-2 for $549 OTD. Seems like a no brainer.

Edited:

I originally thought the cylinder had been machined for moon clips but apparently not.

If it doesn't come with the moon clips, you may find they will be hard to find to fit that conversion. On the other hand they may be readily found through TK. I would be real sure before I laid down any money.

yours is just like my 65-2, barrel no longer pinned, but still recessed cylinder. so i am gonna guess yours was made around the same time as mine, 1981ish toward the end of the -2 run. the 65-3 started in 1982 and eliminated the pinned barrel and recessed cylinders.

If I saw those falling from the sky at that price I’d put a helmet on and run into the storm.

Most folks here would love to have your problem. :)
The best I’ve done was a 3” 13-3 for $650 on this forum, but that was 2 years ago. My last 3” 65-5 was $1000 at the Vegas collectors show, and I was happy to pay. To my eye the 65-5 Lady Smith is a beautiful piece and would seemingly command bigger $$$$; I was shocked to recently see one in the classifieds for $750.

I spent so long watching prices climb and missing out… might finally be time!

I watch these online with some interest, and the sales price trend has been downward over the past 4-6 months, for no reason I can find. Perhaps disposable income has reached a valley.

As has been noted by others on this forum, these are not rare guns, and revolver aficionados are sadly dying off, and collections being sold. The under-40 set is just not interested. Prices gonna keep falling.

I wore my 65-3 hiking in the woods behind my home today. I wish it were P&R, or at least recessed but it's not. However, it is marked BRPD (Baton Rouge) on the frame under the cylinder which does add a lot of value to me. I got it from a guy near Baton Rouge about 15-20 years ago. He had several 3" and 4" BRPD marked S&W's for sale. I should have also gotten a 4" at the time, but hind sight is 20/20. I love police marked guns.

Yes, the OP's gun looks to have a standard recessed ("counterbored") cylinder, and with the unpinned barrel is called a "transitional" model.

All cleaned up. Had some serious drag marks on the hammer and trigger and corresponding high tool marks on the frame and side plate. Took care of that problem. Have extra triggers and hammers but it is fine for what it is. Had these Pacs for sale but they make a very nice, small package. Put them on and then remembered to pull my ad!

Yes, the Compac Pro grips, nice for carry. I like the regular Compacs for the extra cushioning.
