Default 617 4” 10 round

Is a new Smith 617 4” 22 LR 10 round revolver legal in California. Conflicting info on the internet. Can anyone advise. Model SKU is 16O584

Thanks for any info. Want to buy one but not if I can’t take it to California off and on.

Hope I’m allowed to ask this here.

I bought one here in San Diego about 4 yrs ago (a 4" 617-6). Brand new at an FFL. It's one of my all-time favorites.

Yes. I live in California, and I purchased a 617 in June 2024. Sportsmans Warehouse has them in stock and will get one to your closest store in about a week or less. I purchased one from a local So Cal gun shop, but I could have saved some money if I had waited and looked around. Both barrel length versions are listed on the approved California Handgun List.

And it is my understanding that you can bring in an "off roster" firearm into California if you live out of state. And no one at any range I have ever been to is going to scrutinize what firearm you are shooting, especially if it is just a 22. But the S&W 617 is most certainly legal for sale and use in the state of California.
