Default 60-10 MagnaPort

Traded into this one, without actually knowing much about it. I was surprised by the porting and, after research, the relative scarcity. I may need to buy a non-ported model to shoot, with this one retired gracefully.

Is that revolver box labeled with 102432 as the product code?

If that is one of the revolvers for product code 102432, that would make it one of the 182 Model 60 Small Hunters

Somewhere on my home computer I have the Lew Horton letter on this one

1024302: The final ”2” is hand written. Bar code ends in 2430

Letter would be appreciated.

Interesting, 102430 is the same revolver but non-Mag-na-Ported

Your revolver was made on Nov 7th of 1996

It is possible that the 102430 was not selling well and some got sent out for porting with the boxes marked 102432. Or it was done accidentally. When it returned the 2 was handwritten. With Smith and Wesson anything is passably.

A call to customer service with the serial number would have them give you the product code that they recorded it under, so that would answer the question of the handwritten two on the box

Though it is possible that a factory historical letter is the only way that will clear this up 100%

I've documented a fair few Model 60-10s with the Mag-na-port
feature, but this is the first one I've noted with a label so I cannot
comment on the Product Code or the Spec Ord date. Other known
serial numbers begin with CBE, CBJ, and CBL.

Nice find.

I have a 60-9 (2.125" version of yours) that's. Magnaported.

I have the original box a little sticker on top of s&w lable that says magnaported.

The s&w catalog say that some early first year 357 m60s were sent out to be magnaported as a marketing program. My gun dates to the first couple months of production. Plus the guy I bought it from says he bought it new.
I need to get it lettered. Yours might be part of the same early production run.

Don't shoot them close to the body and below eye level.
