Default I picked this 686-3 up in a trade

It is an 8 3/8” with barrel scope rings and a red dot that says one V on it. I think it is 1 of 1100 made in 1989. Any info on gun and scope would be greatly appreciated and a guess on value. No box or papers

I believe you are correct...it appears to be one of 1100 686-3s made in 1989, Product Code 104251. The 8-3/8" bbl. was broached with scope mount, and the revolver came with GA combat stocks. From your picture, neither set of stocks appears to be standard S&W GA combat stocks. The one set is standard over size checkered target stocks with extractor relief ("football") cutout from the late 1970s early 1980s, and those stocks on the revolver look more like Hogue's one-piece stocks. The extra set of target stocks is worth $200+ by themselves. I'm not well versed on handgun scopes, but this could be a Vortex ($200+) or maybe a cheaper Victoptics knockoff ($100). It is a pretty specialized package for either a hunter or silhouette shooter, and I would guess it's value to be around $1100. Enjoy!

I have one of these, and the Millet rings are fragile and no longer made by Millet.
I have not found any substitute rings and am down to my last set of rings.
Mine has a Leupold 2X pistol scope.
