I have seen others asking about these grips. I'm not sure what the attraction is other than perhaps the appearance, which is always subjective. My own experience with snubbies is that hard grips transmit a lot more impact to your hand than rubber and does not give as good a grip. Is there something here I'm just not seeing? I am also not a fan of the stock rubber "boot grips" that Smith uses either so I'm not anti G10 or anything.

Open bottom/closed back? Does this mean frame length and covered backstrap?

For some time, S&W used a rubber open back, open bottom, palm swell grip for RB J's. It is my understanding these were under license from Ahern. Uncle Mike made the near-same grip for a while too. It is by far, the most concealable and recoil reducing grip made for RB J's.

Jury is out for these new VZ's. Looking pretty and feeling nice in the hand isn't proof of the pudding, IMO. How the gun feels and controls with live ammo being fired is that critical test.

Yes. Basically a boot grip that covers the back strap. These are the same grips coming on the new Ultimate Carry J frames.

For those that have bigger hands or longer fingers, these may fill your hand better. And increase your trigger reach.

I’ve got bigger hands, and although I can use standard size boot grips, I prefer something that covers the back strap to increase my trigger finger reach.

My biggest complaint with these VZ grips made for the UC is weight. They add a lot to what should be a lightweight gun. But I can confirm they are comfortable (at least to me). They also only work with an enclosed hammer gun. I tried mine on a model 36 and the top of the grip extends past the frame. And prevents the hammer from being pulled all the way back.

I’ve actually gone to the rubber Taurus boot grip for my 432 UC. Although these are rubber, they’re a fairly hard rubber. For those that pocket carry, a softer rubber may hang-up your draw. I almost never pocket carry, but have some Eagle Secret Service grips made of wood for that purpose. I’m too poor for Spegels, but do own several of the older Uncle Mikes Boot grips. And they are one of my favorites.

Those are fairly concealable but I don't find them recoil reducing. The rubber is a little tacky like all goodyears which is a detriment to concealed carry. The old Pachy grips I bought in the early to mid 80 were the best for shooting and recoil reducing but not great for concealability either. I still have them somewhere if they haven't melted.

I wouldn't mind trying the new VZ grips but I won't order without holding them first.

Does anyone have a clue if these VZ HH UC grips would work on a M649? If so I wounder how they would look.

I think you would have the same issue I had when I put it on my model 36. The hammer would get blocked from going all the way back in SA mode from the height of the back of the grip.

I think I could still shoot DA, as the hammer doesn't go as far back. But I honestly can't remember.

The best thing that could happen is if VZ offered these on Amazon. That way people could "buy, try, & return for free" if they don't like them.

IIRC, part of the reason that VZ didn't do a high horn enclosed backstrap grip before was due to possible interference with hammers, and they didn't want to risk making a grip just for internal hammer J-frames that didn't sell.

Lipsey's stepping up and ordering 4,000 of them eliminated the risk of VZ developing a dud product.

I've got a 642UC, and overall like the grip even though it's a bit larger than I'd prefer. However, shooting .38 Special +P is rather unpleasant compared to my Ruger LCR with it's factory Hogue grip. How it'll interact with your specific hands, I can't say.

Thanks, I was just wondering if the button hammer spur would also be impeded. I have a set of the UM boot grips on my M649 and they are ok, but I have fairly long fingers and could use the extra back strap to trigger reach.
