Had one back in the 90s and let it go and got this new one because a missed it. Just a classic design and the old ones are a rare breed

I have M.G.s in 44Rem Mag and 45Colt.
I reload for both these cartridges and
shoot them a lot, really enjoy the M.G.s.

Looks good. I'll hang onto my old school 629-2, but if S&W offers .45 Colt and/or .41 Magnum I'll probably get a new one.

I want to buy one of the new 686 MG's, but I haven't found anywhere that allows a pre-order, and even if I did, I'm not convinced they will actually become a thing at this point. Even Lipsey's sounded completely clueless when I asked them if there was an estimate as to when they'd be released. I see no reason why 6 of the 7 new "no-lock" revolvers have already hit the shelves, including two which were announced after the 686, and yet still no 686. My guess is they have run into a production problem.

FWIU, S&W revolvers other than aluminum J-frames don't sell well enough for continuous, rather than batch, production. Modern CNC manufacturing means that it's simpler than it used to be to switch the line over from making 629s to 686s, but there's only so much production capacity.
There could also be outside supplier capacity issues. VZ Grips and XS Sights have enough capacity to sell the UC grips and front sights direct now, but that wasn't always the case. I had to wait on a replacement front sight for my 642UC's dead tritium sight.

I just noticed the chamfer cut in the frame of the new guns, right where barrel meets frame.
It echos the black powder chamfer on the cylinder, and elegantly blends the lines of the barrel and frame. Well done.

The old ones have it too......Makes it easier to holster.
