I'd say $650 is about the going price for a 6" 16-4 these days... probably somewhat more in Kalifornia.

The 16-4 like other M16s are scarce... so probably a decent buy...

Thank you for your input. I was impressed with the excellent condition and believe, seeing as how I handload as well, that this would be a good addition for an all around shooter/collector piece. Believe I will get it.

I have never understood why the price of the M16-4 jumped up so quick. Not to long ago you saw them at 400-450 bucks all day long then suddenly they went up to 800 bucks.

If it has the original finger groove "Combat" grips, that's a good price.

Sold mine (99% in 4") last year for $550. Nice gun for collecting but a PITA if you want to shoot and your not already set up to reload .32. In the end, i was lightening my collection down to .38 nad rimfires only so let it go. A good 38 with reloads will do everything the 32 will do and more.

I like the full lug M16s but would not personally pay more than $700 for one.

I'd sure love to own one...I NEVER see them...ever!

I shoot mine a LOT and only my .45 ACP's get shot more.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Paid just about this same price for my avarage 625 5". Also paid just a bit less for a super clean SP101 in 9 MM. Guess I am just a sucker for paying too much for the discontinued ones.

I reload for mine. My every day target load is (in .32 S&W Long cases) 2.8/231 (in .32 H&R cases, 3.2/231). Another good load is 2.0 grs Bullseye behind a Hornady 90 gr HBWC).

My "Full" load is .32 H&R cases, 10.0 grs of H110 and a 100 gr Keith SWC (Group buy mould from Cast Boolits.com). The RCBS 98 gr SWC bullet works just fine, also.

This was shot standing at 25 yards with the 2.8/231 w/100 gr Keith.

While some have no use for the 32's, their un-commonness seems to give them value among the folks who like the caliber.

I cast 2 bullets for .32 for use in my 32-20's & .32 HE's, etc. I have been looking for any of the 16-4's for awhile since....

Found one today actually, and paid more than your find....not complaining though...they are not seen often where I go.
The one I got today is like new and in the correct box with tools & papers, however.

Don't throw the box away if it comes with one.



Buy it, I am sure you can dump it,if you ever want to, for no loss & maybe even a gain?

Based on some of the feedback, it would seem the price is reflected more by region availability than by anything else. Didn't really think about how few were made and how seldom they are seen. This is the first one I can remember seeing in person, period.

Are you guys using 32 H&R dies or 32 S&W long dies?

I use RCBS 32 Mag Carbide dies. They will do 32 Mag/32 S&W Long/ 32 Short.

I sold my 6" 16-4 FTF to a satisfied buyer a year or so ago for $725. I advertised it on this forum and could have sold it at that price several times over.

I use Lee Carbide .32 H&R dies in my Dillon 550B with the Lee Factory Crimp die. I size my bullets to .313". I have several .32's and the Ruger SP101 has the tightest chambers and requires the .313" sizing. That dimension also works well with all the others so I have settled on that.

Dale53; A side question for you: Do the Lee dies work in the Dillon press without any trouble? The cost of switching my large Lee die collection to Dillon has been the only reason I haven't got a 550 yet.

The Lee dies work well. However, I have changed my lock rings to the new Dillon "small" lock rings. They not only work better with the Lee dies but they work better with ALL dies on the 550B. They give a good bit more room to adjust. I consider it a "must" improvement to change all die rings to Dillon "new" small rings.

Other than that, you should have no trouble with the Lee dies. Of course, using a Dillon powder measure you will want to use the Dillon powder drop tube and expander (part of the Dillon powder measure system).

Jump on board (the Dillon 550B). I sure like BOTH of mine and I have loaded THOUSANDS of cartridges with MUCH satisfaction (both rifle and pistol).

Keep in mind that I use the Lee Pro Auto Disk powder measure on several of my small caliber revolver loads (.32 & .38) with success. I also have three Dillon measures on dedicated calibers.

Well I did it. I place a deposit on the mod. 16. Don't have $650.00 laying around and my better half would have a "coniption fit" if I charged that much on my credit card for "another" gun. I will have to pay it out. Oh well, the curse of having six grand-kids and having to work for a living instead of being born rich.

Congrats, I have to chime in too that what you paid is reasonable, if not a bargain. The value of these guns can only go up with the increasing interest by people in collecting/accumalating S&W's.. especially the pre-locks.

Like the original M-16 K32 Masterpiece, the value of the M16-4's are benefitting from only being produced for a few years in relatively low numbers. For collectors of K Frames, they are difficult to come buy.

I have a M16-4 6" I bought new and have been offered twice what I paid for it, but as Dale53 said, mine will follow me to my death bed. Hands down it is the most favorite revolver in my collection to shoot... next to my 5 screw K38 Masterpiece.

I just picked up a 432PD, prices on these .32 H&R mag J frames are starting to climb too after being dropped from S&W's product line.

With the advent of the new .327 Federal cartridge, we may never see another S&W chambered in .32 H&R mag or in .327 Federal for that matter since post war .32 caliber guns have not done well sales wise for S&W.

Good price. Seen more than one hitting $800 lately.

One S&W M16 6" available at a Gunshown I attended last weekend at $700.00. 97% my estimate, box, paperwork etc., correct grips. This was the only one of these I have ever seen but I thought it was high. I may have been wrong........ .

In my opinion you have done well in finding your 16 at that price. In my part of the country $650. is cheap. I am a fan of 32 cal. for fun and am in the process of building a 327 for field use.
